Hi Rajee

I am not currently living in Germany. I should say I was in Hannover (not even near stuttgart). Then wondering why did I care to reply here?!

Well...Stuttgart always reminds me of Metzingen. So just wanted to know have you already made your trip to Metzingen shopping area?!

Cheers
Jenz

Hello Rajee,
We were in Germany for more than 6yrs in Boeblingen area(Gaetringen)and moved to U.S last year.
I love stuttgart area .We used to visit Konnings strasse and the Indian Store on saturdays.I used to take S-Bahn to travel alone.I still have my freinds there.Stuttgart is in the center of Europe and u can travel around so easily as it takes just 2hrs to Zurich by car ,Lovely Black forest area,Tubingen,Baden-baden,Europa park.etc. Its an amazing beautiful place to be in Summers but Winters are extremely cold.
How r u feeling there and since when r u in Germany? How old is ur son?
R u taking German classes?
If u need any info or help regarding the area please be free to ask me..
Gutan Tag und Gruss aus..
Minu

Hi,

German Language is quite a challenge yes. At times I feel do I really have to learn a new language?! But then, it does motivate me to learn so that we find accepted among the locals....least let's say we don't feel left out!

Cheers

Hi all,
In my opinion it is very important to learn the language of a country u r residing.I had a hard time initially in Germany without knowing the language. But then I joined Volkshochschule to learn German.
knowing a new language is a gift and is always a great advantage in mixing with people and enjoying the place.
So always try to learn the local language and do join Volkschochschule if u can spare time
Best wishes,
Minu

Hi friends,

Just popped in to say hi to you all. I lived in Germany for a brief span of 2 yrs and Minu was my friend there. Now both of us have moved to US.

My hubby had gone for German language classes at that time and got some books. I remember we had German-English dictionary and a phrase book. I somehow managed to learn very little and could manage by myself with my son alone.

Public transportation is indeed excellent there unlike here in US :( but winters are too cold n very hard to bear. That way US is good.

Germany has many sightseeing places. All other countries like Swiss,Paris etc were very close from where we stayed. We travelled a lot during our stay there.

vani.

Hi Rajee,

Welcome to Germany. I live not far from you.. in Munich. We lived in Dusseldorf for 4 years and then moved to this city last year. Yes South of Germany is a lot more colder. I am sure you are already experiencing this sudden change in temperature.. really unbearable for me esp with 2 small children. But I am very much in love with Germany (at the moment). Our friends used to live in Stuttgart and we have visited them couple of times. It has got more indian (esp tamilian) shops than Bavaria.

As for language, I did a 8 month 3 times a week course in VHS when we first landed in Germany. I highly recommend it to you. First the classes are cheap compared to other institutes and second you get to have a large group and that makes it very interactive, which i found is very important in learning a language. And German grammar is tough, yes, but atleast most of the vocab is very similar to english. Once you pass the grammatical challenge then it's a breeze. Never hesitate to speak whatever you know in public... that's how i have improved my language skills.

And look out for Mütterzentrum (mother centres or family centres). They have very good activities for babies and children. Most moms do understand english and it is very good for your child esp in winter season to interact with children indoors. Again these places the fees is very very less. Normally each area in a city/town has such centres so you'll not have difficulty finding them.

Hi Rajee,

I will be moving to Stuttgart in Jan 2009 with my husband and 5 year old daughter Ira.

Next month I will finalize my place of stay and school for my daughter. Have you settled in ? If so any suggestions before I leave from here. Presently I am in Bangalore.

Lakshmi

Hi Rajee,

even I am in Stuttgart. And as Jenz mentioned mentioned Metzingen, I would like to add, that its a really great town, with soooo many Outlet Shops from all big brands, Puma, Hugo Boss, ESPRIT, S.Oliver, Marc O' Polo... its really great!

Hey, I am actually looking for a small appartment in Stuttgart. If you know anyone who is leaving one, or if you know of some (in your building or so), please let me know!
Thanks.
