radha | Hi Radha,
I live in a smaller city with meager Indian population. Bigger cities have lot more opportunities but you know competition is also bad. Look for jobs using websites like eluta or workopolis or monster. They have jobs listed city wise.
IT market is slow but its not like down south with lay off but then again it depends. Well cities like vacouver and toronto its hard to buy a house as they are very expensive, Edmonton, calgary, montreal are suppose to be better. Quote:

Can you tell me about the job market in Canada as my hubby is in IT. Thanks for posting good things about Canada so people like me who scare to come there will get boost. Looking forward your reply,

Calgary is a great place to live( Great scenic beauty !). Alberta was booming becoz of oil existence, i am not too sure about IT. As far as i know they are doing alright when compared to USA. Look at the sites mentioned above for the job categories. Let me know if you have any ?s

Hi all
My name is Priya.I lived in Ottawa,Canada for 10yrs.After my marriage I went to Canada.I have two kids. They were born there.Regarding the waether it is bad and sometimes its even worst in the cold months. But in summer you wont even believe how the weather is,with people walking, jogging, kids playing out in the streets for long hrs.
Myself being a full time mom I had depressions every now and then. But after six months or so I started making new friends. So every weekend or alternate weekends we used to have potluck dinners at our friends place. So its a nice gettogether for all of us.
But recently we moved to India for many reasons.Sometimes I regret that I left my house and the beautiful city and all the nice things over there.
Once again it all depends upon the beholders perspective. So be happy and enjoy the life there, bcos once u miss it, its impossible to get that kind of lifestyle. It is my own opinion. So cheer up and be happy.
-Priyas.

Like any other place in the world, Canada too has plus & minus. Any weather , however cold is manageable if you are clothed appropriately. Do people complain about the scorching, extreme heat of the Gulf, when they move there ------ NO !! Then why does weather become an issue when moving here ... it is the major 'excuse' used by many .
Things on career front are same as elsewhere in the world ... a slump. After many years in the Gulf, we came here 8 months ago from Montreal for a project my husband was offered. He is in IT. The project ended in mid-March ; since then he is hunting for a job .....
It is a huge struggle, we have to make sacrifices, adjust & compromise a lot ------ still it is what we as immigrants should expect to face. The initial days of swallowing difficulties & pushing thro' is what is going to reap good results in the long run . It is a test of your mental strength & resolve , how badly you want to make it in this beautiful country.
Good Luck to all you folks preparing to come to Canada .

Mona | Mona,
When you relocate I am assuming, you will do it after you DH gets a job. If it is the case, most of the companies provide moving expenses. If that is not the case then if I were you I would think about how much it would cost me to buy there(canada) and how much i really need it. When I started here, I got a lot of things from Garage sales , .. which usually happens in summer. Like I said, it depends on lots of different things, all things are very close to USA price.
Regards
Sati

Mona | I don't live in Calgary, I have been to Calgary. It is so beautiful....especially Baunff and Jasper....... i have not seen anything that beautiful :)
Just Google for Indian association in Calgary or Hindu temple in Calgary. It would just make it easier to find somebody in your city to start with.

Sorry to hear that you aren't able to cope with the cold here. I am from New Brunswick too. i live in St Andrews. I visit Moncton once in 3-4 months. If you'd like, we can chat sometime. I have a 23 month old daughter.

Just a question...silly as it may sound; are you dressing up properly? Like, do you have thermals? They help a lot. When we have long winters (like this year) it is difficult. Do you know we havent been to camping at all this year! Dress properly and take multivitamins. You wil be fine.
Canada is a beautiful country....
