| Hi Ladies , Lets not get into the language/region thing. Its precisely what the thread is about, about NOT getting into the language/region thing Btw, Hindi is not the national language of India, Hindi is the official language of India. English is also recognised as the official language of India. My thinking is that one can speak in any language one is comfortable with, provided the person he/she is talking to is able to understand and converse in. Also, as HW rightly said, we cannot stand around and judge people on the basis of whom they would like to be friends with and for what reasons. We should just forget it and move on, if we dont like it, because people are what they are and will do what comes to them naturally. Its all about one's own comfort level, when we seek friends. Thats what i feel . Hope no one takes it personally as it is not about any particular individual/s, but all of us(people) in general.Cheers ! Sanchita

| Here is my opinion I dont agree with the behaviour generalization of either north indians or south indians .Each individual is different .I personally feel there is nothing wrong in making friends with people belonging to the same region . When you are in a different country you tend to give preference to someone who speaks your mother tongue, just for the simple reason that you are able to communicate more easily & freely. Haing said that I would also like to mention that My best friend is from different region /language .I suppose Everyone desires to get good friends , I feel its not about attitude or mindset , its about the comfort level with the other person that matters. If North Indians feel south indians are reluctant to move with them , just few simple gestures from one side to make the other party understand we want to be friendly with them will make a great difference. All that matters is who decides to make that first approach. And, as sanchita has mentioned Hindi is not our national language ,just because we dont have a common language ,Hindi has become a dominant one . Ria , No offence .just a thought .I feel indirecly you contradict your statement of being neutral in making friends , when you seem to take the side of north indians . -Suba |

| I am fairly new here but this topic interested me a lot. I completely agree with subaa that we cannot generalize people on the basis of where they come from. and well India is not north and south but east and west too. This is a forum where people can express their ideas freely and so if someone wants to meet friends from their region/language then its left upto them. its like saying what is the need for a bay area forum why not post everything in Indians in US forum. Another thing is that we have all kinds of experiences growing up, living and meeting with people and it is all different, so just because some of u felt south Indians do not mix with other people doesn't mean everyone is like that. Well I am a south Indian and most of my friends are north Indians. and ethnicity or region is not really a criteria for friendship where I am concerned, but that may not be the same for everyone else, so let us all have fun and not be very troubled by all this. I don't mean to offend anyone and hope no one takes it personally, this is just my opinion!!!! -- Swetha |
