Thumbs down DMV experience

hey friends..
I'd like to share my experience with the DMV written test.
Saturday 8 am I reached the santa clara DMV..gosh! hell a lot of ppl already waiting in queue!
still we waited..got in , got the application to fill and waited for our number to reached the counter.
I had my initial screenings and attended the test..
with border of 5 mistakes , passed the written!!
when i reached the correction line, the officer said I passed but since i dunt have a SSN he cant complete the procedure to give me a permit!!
I was shocked..y??? When I am eligible to get a CA ID , y not a permit?
I didnt have thepresence of mind to ask him then and there.. my hubby reminded me of some more questions that i cud have asked him..
Well what to do? came out and called the toll free number..told them my problem that i do not require a SSN since I am not working. and also I already got CA ID with out issues. They asked me to call the helpline which is available only from mon thru fri.
So I waited till today(monday) and called the DMV again to see if my aplication is still valid or whether i have to rewrite the test. They said its valid from an year from the day i wrote.

then called helpline and told them abt my concern. They asked me to fax all my status documents. I called my husband who was in office, gave him the number to fax. when he did it, in half hr the DMV called and said there isnt any concern as my visa is L2. and I am eligible for the process and SSN is not required at the moment. They are forwarding the application and I might get my permit in 10 days time!!!
In the mean time I am also applying for SSN to be on the safer side. once i get my SSN I can call DMV up and update my info.
Whew!! Look at the Trouble I have to go through just to get a permit!!!
anyways..anything got the harder way is always fruitful..I believe in that.
