Dear Sudhi,

I was using Mirro for sometime. Go through the manual. You will find instructions regarding cooking rice. Just follow that. The first time when you use it, find out the timings that the whistle should rock. You won't get the sound like Indian ones. So, when the whistle starts rocking, you have to simmer the heat and allow it to rock for sometime. I haven't tried with dhal, though. You can give it a try. It should work for dhal, too.

I got one as gift from hubby for valentines... I am just timing it. Like its very quick so as soon as I set it then just 5 mins for 1 vessel or 10 mins for 2 vessels.

Don't waste your time on American crappy cooker. Just go buy a decent Hawkins one from India. The one we bought 10 years back is going to last us another 10 years.

American cookers work just fine - it is a bit different from what we are used to in India - read the instructions and time it and it will work out. It is not that difficult to get used to and I would definitely not call them crappy!

Hi,
As shobhana said the American cooker works fine...by regular use & some trial n error method (esp..Dhals)you will be able to tune it according to our Indian cooking...Also refer the manual. It will give tips regarding cooking time for various food products.

Post Re: using american pressure cooker for indian cooking

Hi,

I've used only Indian pressure cookers (prestige) so far cos i bought many (in different sizes) from Chennai.
Are American cookers good enough for our Indian cooking?

Are they made of stainlesss steel or do they have a non stick coating inside?

Can anyone elaborate on this please. If it is worth, sure no harm in giving it a try.

Thanks
Krithika
