Hi Krithika, For steaming idli i use an idli cooker & sometimes even for veggies...i use the pressure cooker for making dhals, channa etc...just soak it overnight & pressure cook it the nextday...

Hi ammu kutty, Since I have got used to steaming idlis in cooker..i find it convenient.. As for cooking channa, rajma and other beans...i too soak them overnight and pressure cook them the next day! So no probs. As for cooking dhals (like tur dhal, moong dhal etc) there is no need to soak them overnight..they get cooked very well...if we pressure cook them with 4 or 5 whistles. As for steaming veggies..i alternate between steaming in microwave and cooker (depends on the amount and type of veggies). Cheers Krithika Last edited by Jithiks; 26th March 2008 at 08:45 AM.

Hi Krithika, While using the Indian cooker i never used to soak the dhal..but with the new cooker i think it takes more time ...so to save time i started soaking ...

Hi ammukutty, That's a to soak the dhals if the cooker takes more time. One additional tip...try soaking them in hot water (overnight or early morning incase you forgot to soak it the previous night) Cheers Krithika
