Hi Bay area ladies,

I have joined the IL forum recently and today I thought i should introduce myself to you all in bay area..

I am Geeth Priya and live in Sunnyvale for the last 7 years...I am currently not working and trying to have some fun in life at my own pace...

My pasttime involves mainly browsing the net especially contributing and reading the IL postings, listensing to music (carnatic) , some cooking and ofcourse lot of exercise such as walk, yoga, pilate's etc., to keep me occupied.

I would be happy to meet u all in IL as often as possible..

Happy to be here always,
Geeth Priya

Default Re: visit to Disneyland and San Diego

Hi Sunitha,

We are planning a trip to Disney Land and San Diego (Sea World, Legoland and Zoo) during the last week of May. We'll be visiting Disney land during the first day of our trip followed by Sea World, Legoland and Zoo during the subsequent days. Could you mention where you stayed during your trip.

Thanks,

We drove down to LA (actually-Anaheim,Orange County) on 3rd Sep.It tookus about 8 hrs from Sacramento since we had a break for about 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hrs on the way.As per Vandhana's suggestion,we stayed in ExtendedStay America since it had rooms with attached kitchens. The kitchen had a stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, fridge and few pieces of cutlery.I had carried a few microwave safe dishes, some cutlery, dish washing liquid, scrubber with me and that helped a lot.Infact,I even carried Idli/dosa batter and a dosa pan with me!! .All this really helped since we could cook our own food and not depend on burgers and pizzas all the time!

We covered the San diego Zoo the first day.It is about 90 miles from Anaheim.
We spent the next 3 days at Disneyland and California Adventure park.Since we did not do many rides involving rollercoasters and water splashes,we were able to complete these 2 in 2 1/2 days.I feel that 3 days should be sufficient to do all the rides. Moreover,we took lunch breaks at our hotel since it was only 5 minutes away and there were shuttle buses(Anaheim Resort Transit ) travelling to and fro every 20 minutes. The tickets were $3 per person(children travel free) and it worked out cheaper than parking the car at disneyland where the parking fees is $ 10.Also,the $3 ticket is valid the whole day and one can travel to and fro any number of times in a day.
We spent the last day at Legoland, and as Vandhana said,it sure is a must for kids.It is about 60 miles from Anaheim. My son really enjoyed every ride at this place.Legoland is open from 10 am to 5 pm only and we had to rush thru ' some rides since we arrived at 11 am.One day is sufficient for Legoland.

On our way back to Sacramento,we went to the Malibu temple. It took us about 1 hr and 15 minutes from Anaheim. This temple also is a must see .

Thanks to Vandhana and Shal,we sure had a great time .

There are many hotels close to Disneyland in Anaheim,at short distances. We stayed at Extended stay America which had attached kitchen in the room. Since we drove down from here to Disneyland(about 7 hrs) ,we could carry a lot of kitchen items with us and we could cook in the room itself. If you are not planning to cook, then you can choose any of the other hotels nearby.

I personally feel that 1 day at Disneyland will not be sufficient. You will need 1 day for Disneyland and 1 day for California Adventure(which is also part of Disneyland,LA)

You will need 1 day for Zoo and another day for Legoland.I have not been to Seaworld,so I don't know about the same.

Well,I am just back from a 4 day trip to LV and GC.Las Vegas strip was beautiful, all colourful and glimmering in the nights. For those of you like me,who don't know what the strip is,it is nothing but a road in LV (about 7 miles long)lined with all the hotels, restaurants and casinos. The hotels are huge and each hotel has some theme to it.There is one called the 'New York-New York' which looks like a mini Manhattan all complete with the
Statue of Liberty. Then another called the Luxor shaped like the pyramids and Sphinx .Similarly, there is Paris,Ceasar's Palace, the Venetian,Monte Carlo etc etc.

All hotels have huge casinos inside and it is a gambler's paradise. They also have shows with half-naked women and it is no wonder that it is called 'The Sin City'.

If you have children who are at an age where they can understand certain things, pls do not go to LV.Even if you don't go to these shows, the images advertising these shows are everywhere and it is always visible to all.

We also went to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon,a long journey by bus(about 5-5 1/2 hrs one way). That took us one whole day.On the way ,we saw Hoover Dam(which is about 30 miles from LV) and Lake Mead. I can never forget the Grand Canyon, wow, simply breathtaking!!!! To think that all that was created by the Colorado river.....Amazing!!

I had my most memorable birthday too at LV....we took a Gondola Ride at The Venetian Hotel and when the Gondola man came to know that it is my birthday,he sang a very loud personal birthday song for me in Italian !!!!All the tourists standing around the canal heard the song and cheered along....all this left me blushing!

It was truly memorable!
