I have recently migrated to Adelaide abt 6mths back. I wld like to start this thread for the ones that have migrated recently from India and be friends. This will also help to discuss and get some feedback abt this place

Thank you for your reply I have migrated recently abt 6months ago. Its quite a happening place here, but the northern suburbs are quite and calm place which everyone wld love to enjoy after a hard days job. But jobs are are uncertain here. When I came here within a month I got a job in Telstra callcentre and worked there for 4 months, later they chucked me. So now I'm jobless, and trying for jobs which I can do from home. Can you suggest something for me?

BTW for how long have you been in Melbourne? And are you working?
I shall be happy to get in contact with the person from Adelaide, you wrote to me.

I have read a lot of your blogs and today I'm happy to be in contact with you.

I am not really sure how to help you dear with jobs. I guess just looking and looking on the net seek.com kinda websites are good for job hunting and pestering agencies till they find one for you. I am not working at the moment and enjoying the good time. I have been here for a while now, 13yrs. There are two new comers here, though in Melbourne, but are also seeking jobs like you ( Pratim and Precious ). You may ask them too for tips and how they are going about looking for jobs. Megh is the person I was talking to you about , who is in Adelaide. I hope she will be in touch with you soon. She could also help you with job search tips. The short Telstra experience must have been good anyway for you. Put that on your resume and make it sound all grand and colourful

Really nice to meet you and happy to know that you stumbled across some of my blogs too. I am just giving it a go by writing...not too serious. There are some seriously great writers here and you will surely enjoy them too.

I m frm adelaide..glad to fine some frm Adelaide:)
I have been here for 2 and half years...its a nice place to be.

Regarding jobs i would suggest u to register at some job agencies like hudson.com...i mean try to get an interview with them...
Otherwise I would suggest to do some volunteering jobs:)

Thank you for your reply. At last! some one in adelaide. I have been to many recuriting agencies a couple of times, but the reply wld be "we entertain only the PRs and not SIRs" I worked for abt 5 months . At the moment I do a volunteer job in a church and my son's school .

Which part of Adelaide do you live? I live in the parafield gardens surburb.

Although I dont live in Adelaide, I would just like to share with you a few pointers on the jobsearch front. As K2S suggested, do go on the websites seek.com, careerone.com mycareer.com and a few other sites. Also sometimes not all jobs are listed on the websites, check your local newspaper as well. Go to the recruitment companies and put your name down. When I came, I also took up a customer service job which only lasted a month, then I was about a month without a job, then landed my current job. You just have to keep trying. Also, at the start, dont hesitate to take a job even if the salary is a bit less, once you get local experience then you can always try for another job.
