Default What Spices are alowed

Hi,
Going through this forum i came across posts about carrying spices with you.

Please explain to me whether we can make our powdered spices and carry or should we tAke readymade ones like "shakthi masala"?

Only ready made ones will have the ingredients mentioned right?

Also do we have to declare this in any form?

Please tell me where we have to mention this and in which luggage we should carry it?

like cosmetics do we have to place them in a see through bag?Pls help

lol

Hello Supriya,

You are allowed to bring only readymade spices as it would have all the main ingredients written on it. Sometimes really it depends on your luck as there have been many cases were even commercially packed spices have been thrown away and sometimes homemade spices have been allowed in. However, nowadays they are extremely careful about the types of food items they allow in Australia.

However you will find that you will find most of the spices available here as well in Indian stores. Yes, if you compare the costs it will definitely be more expensive here but how long will you keep bringing spices from India? Where are you planning to stay in Australia? There are lots of Indian stores everywhere that have all the spices required for our cooking.

Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks a lot for the feedback...I'll be coming to melbourne....If all spices are available then i guess i dont need to bring any.

I thought hing and sambar podi will be difficult to find there...

Also another question.....

I have sensitive skin and i use herbal face packs....such as multani matti and orange peel powder..... will i be allowed to bring this in industrially packed powder form?(made in india).......i'm not very sure whether i can find them there.....

Also as there are limitation on the liquid cosmetics i can bring such as placing them in a see through bag and volume restrictions i thought of bringing more of face packs in powdered form...

i've always used herbal stuff and am not too sure of the ones found in Aus...

pls help

Hi Supriya,

Hing is easily available here as is sambarpodi.

I dont know whether you will be able to bring multanni mitti in. You can try to bring it properly commercially packed and please declare it on your form. I am sure that even that will be available in Indian stores.

Hi Muskaan,

Could you please post some of the names of the indian stores so that we can visit the website for those stores. It would give us brief picture of the prices of these items.

Thanks.
Surekha

Be sure to tick the Food box as Yes. Anything that goes through the mouth is "food". A lot of Indian beauty products are available here, obviously at Australian prices.
