Smile To All Indians in Melbourne

Hi all.....
I am Aparna from Dubai & I just got my PR for Australia. Me, my husband & two boys will be coming to Melbourne at the end of August for 15days. This place is totally new for us. It will be great help if anyone can guide us about the best suburb to live in melbourne & can give some idea about the place.
I found this website while searching schools & accomodation in Melbourne. I think this is the best place to make friends. I was happy to read about lots of Indians residing in Melbourne.
Hope you will help me & guide me about this new place.
Thanks & Regards.

Re: Indians from Melbourne? Introduce yourselves here!

Hello Aparna

Sorry about the delay. I was not in town for a few weeks and never got to see your post. Glad to hear that u r coming over. I suppose on a short visit. Honestly I dont know much. But I had a friend of mine come recently visiting Melbourne with family ( two kids, husb, wife ) for the same reason as u guys. They looked for serviced apartments online and were staying in one in St Kilda. Dont know what the name is, but the cost sounded very reasonable. There are trams from St Kilda that takes u to the city. You just need to buy a Daily Ticket and that will take u on any train / tram / bus throughout the day, within that Zone.

There are apartments in the city as well..but depends on what the budget is.

wotif.com and questapartments are a couple of such sites. You can filter the search by specifying your budget etc.

Hi Aparna,I am sutha from melbourne.Wishes for ur PR.I am also PR here, living with my husband and one 18month old boy.U told,u r going to stay for only 15days.Do u have any plan to shift anywhere in australia? For accomodation, there are many other sources here.Indians who visit first time would prefer share accomodation. It is best and cheapest way.U can stay with any other indian family with share.Second option is renting the house, get the house for rent for the first time is very difficult.Dont choose hotel stay, because in CBD it is very costly.foods are very costly there in CBD.I am living here for 2and half years. We have own house. If,u have any other doubt,u can ask me.see u

Hi Jeyasutha,

I'm surekha and i have been around in this website for a while now. I'm still in the process of filing for DIAC. Could please help me with the following questions.

1. I saw Wotif.com and questapartments.com, apparently i found it to be expensive, can you suggest any other websites ?
2. Do you think it would be better if we come to Aus & then search for a flat or shared accomodation or do we make payment from india and land in that house directly?
3. Any websites where i can search for shared accomodation with indians while i'm in india? Or any indian organisations that offer these services to us?

I hope i'm not being a pain !! ( getting worried about the accomodation and how to go about it )

Thanks.

Cheers !!
Surekha

Hi,

I just read your post. I think you are still looking for an answer. I have stayed in Melbourne for a year and now I am back to India.

For your initial few days its always better to stay in a serviced apartment or a hotel. Finding a place to rent in Melbourne and suburbs is a big task as the demand is high and supply is less. You can search the same on www.realestate.com.au.

You have to look for the postings regularly and check when is the place open for inpspection. Mind it that it would only be open for inpsection for an hour or two at the given date and time. If its a good place then trust me, you would always get atleast 10-15 people coming to have a look at the property. If you like the property by having a loook at the website and your investigation then download the application form from the real estate agents website and fill it ( atleast the basic details) and deposit its to the agent at the site itself , else you have to fax it to them or send a scanned copy by email. You have to bid for the rent you want to pay for the place.

Agent will send all the forms to the property owner and they wd make a decision to whom them want to choose.

Its better if you can get a reference letter of the propety agent in dubai (if its a big one) and attach a copy with your rental application.

It is going to help you out. Also carry your bank statemnets, proof of identity, driving licence etc. If possible get a personal reference , it also helps a lot in your selection as a tenent.

If you have any further questions free to ask. I would try to answer your queries.

Regards

VG
