Default Sydney in general & UNSW in particular

Hi ! Could some one living in Sydney/ having a child in UNSW help me out by giving me some general idea about life there , as also how it is for an Indian student at UNSW / how foreign students are treated etc. Also, how easy/difficult is it to get accomodation in/outside the Campus ? I'd be grateful , if you could also tell me about food available . Thank You.

Hi Vaijayanthi!

From your question I take it you have a child off to begin their studies at UNSW? Congratulations to you both :)

UNSW's main campus is in Randwick, a suburb/locality of Sydney. Its mostly students, safe, with plenty of off-campus housing. (S)he should check with the following:
- for oncampus/dorm housing check with the international office at UNSW
- for offcampus housing check with the Indian students' organisation at UNSW and also at Sydney Classifieds - jobs in Sydney, flats to rent, Sydney dating
- food? We have that ;) Are you asking about Indian grocery stores? I'm not sure if there are any in Randwick itself, but there are plenty within bus/train distance. Let me know if Sydney | Chingri Maachh is of any help in finding Indian stores in Sydney.
- safety/attitudes? The throngs of Indians headed down under attest to its popularity and great lifestyle for everyone, including Indians.

HI,

I am moving to sydney with my husband and two year old daughter. I want to know if it is possible for me to put my child in playschool and work part time. Also people have been telling me that Sydney is verrrry expensive place.

What is the cost of living like. What can we expect in terms of housing, scjhools, transport, grocery etc. I mean day to day living.

My husband's office qwould be in downtown sydney so we plan to live in some suburbs, any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks
Tanu.
