    Hello everyone
We are planning to move to Adelaide before this year end as my son will finish his grade 10 in March. Please advise me about his admissions. My son wants to pursue his studies in Design technology for cars etc.. He doesn't want to continue academics. He wants to go into practical field, so if anyone knows what is best suited in Australia which can enhance his technical and designing skills. Please guide me as I m very much worried taking such a big step. Let me know if there is any suitable collage or course in Adelaide.
    Please help........
    Thank you
    Shaheen

    Hi Falcon,
I am not sure what do you mean by "Design Technology for cars". But if your son wants to actually design cars (either technology or otherwise), then most employers will expect atleast a Bachelors degree. I am not sure how that can be achieved without continuing his academic pursuits.

Car industry in Australia will be non-existent in a year or two. However, General Motors (GM) might still continue with their technology centre in Melbourne (about 100 employees) but its high end R&D centre and most people there would have a PhD. If you are specifically moving to Australia so that your son can get into car industry then you should re-think because there will be no car industry in a year or two!

    Hello mevirus
Thanks a lot for your reply. Sorry for not specifying what he want to study in future. He wants to do Diploma in Automobile Engineering after 10th then he wants to do either Bachelor in Automobile Engineering, Aeronautical engineering or Bachelor in Industrial designing specialising in cars where he ll be able to modify car design s. I d like to know which one is better choice in Australia.

    Thanks
    Shaheen

    Hi mevirus
Can I know where u r put up in Australia and where r u from. I m really in a confused state as I belong to Chennai and we r currently living in Kuwait for the past 15 years. As we r expecting our PR to OZ I ll have to decide whether to send my son to India for further studies to India after 10th in March or to immediately relocate to Australia once we get the PR as I heard they have better options for courses after 10th in OZ.That's why I am in a confused state of mind.
We are expecting our PR by June and we are relocating to Australia with family. I am unable to know how the educational system works in Australia after 10th ... If they have to do 11th or getting into Diploma Course is possible.
Are the courses my son chose a better choice to lead a comfortable life in Australia in future. If yes which is the most appropriate choice.
I really liked The fact u mentioned about car industry in Australia. That will be a great help to decide too as he s passionate about working with cars.

If you r aware of the requirements and the future need in Australia then I d really like to know your opinion.

    Thank you so much.
    Shaheen

I am unable to post web-links due to restrictions. If you search on wikipedia for Australian school system, you should be able to get a basic understanding of how the schooling works here. Department of Education and Training website is also helpful (again I am unable to post web-links).

Unfortunately, those are very subjective and I am unable to answer those.
