Default Happy Australia Day & Republic day

G'day People,

It is time for a dual celebration in Australia today:

It is Australia day & Republic day for people of Indian Origin.

It is more special for me as it is my first Australia day after I became a Citizen of Australia.

The city of Kingston has organised a 2 day festival Globe to Globe

To get there, Just get down to Princes Hwy, Turn into Clayton Road & into Springs road.

I am planning to go there.

What are your plans?

Cheers,

Corallux

Dear Anandachitra,

Thanks for your wishes.

Yes, Oz is a beautiful country. You must come down & see for yourself. It is simply out of the world. Australia is a melting pot of Multi-Culturism.

Significance of Australia Day:
Australia Day marks the anniversary of Captain Arthur Phillip unfurling the British flag at Sydney Cove and proclaiming British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia on 26 January 1788. On Australia Day, we celebrate what's great about Australia, celebrate our nation and our achievements and recommit to making Australia an even better place for the future.

Our National Symbols:

The Flag:

When the Australian colonies federated to form the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901, the Union Jack had been the official flag for 100 years to the day. A new nation raised an urgent demand for a new emblem. An official competition for a design was arranged, which attracted 32,823 entries. Five of these, which contained almost identical designs, were placed equal first. Apart from later changes in the magnitudes of the stars and the number of points, they had produced the present Australian flag.The Australian National Flag flew for the first time on 3 September 1901 from the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne.

The National Anthem:

Advance Australia Fair

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We'll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair."

I hope this Info wil help other ILs in knowing about the Country down under

Love,

Corallux
