Smile Re: Moving to Melbourne, Australia

Hi, my name is Chandni and I and my husband might be moving to Melbourne in September.
I was wanting to know whether all Indian groceries and spices are available in Melbourne or do I need to carry anything from India.
Also, are most Indian utensils like cooker, idli stands, tawa, patilas etc available in Melbourne or would I need to carry that too.
what could be the approximate cost of these stuff.
I would appreciate any guidance on what things I should carry from India.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chandni:

Just as Coral has mentioned in her thread, all spices are available.

However, steel utensils can be expensive. Hence it is recommended that you bring them along. You could organise for them too be shipped from India.

Please do not include any food items in the shipment as it will have to go through quarantine and may take a long time to clear. If there is an item that cannot be brought in, you may also have to pay penalty for bringing it in.

Good luck,
Prb.

»»up to 12 at Wollongong (from the GAMSAT guide in the website).

The website provides exhaustive information about admissions, preparation guide. if you happen to be an international student, please make sure to check if you are able to do internship in Australia.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the information Prb!
This forum has been really really helpful!

Also, do people here wear Indian clothes during festivals and ocassions. This is so that I can know how many Indian clothes will I need.

Also, what is Australia's formal dress code. Do people wear blazers all the time, or a formal pant/skirt with a formal shirt is considered enough!
