Hi Sunkan
I actually dont know exactly about Nigeria, but my cousin is living in Kenya (on a temporary contract), which is a nearby country, and according to her Kenya is not at all safe, but they have a huge indian population there. They move around in groups only, with their colleagues and their families, even the maids cannot be trusted, they can kill anyone even for food... there is a lot of poverty...
I also have a friend in Uganda, on a temporary contract only and that is also not safe, but these places have so much of indian population, that you can see Pan shops everywhere and stuff... but they are ordered by the companies they are working for, not to go out of the housse after 5-6 o clock in the evening..
these places have a lot of internal disturbances, so a lot of violence...
if the person is goin with family and she knows people around that place already, then its okey, otherwise its not recommended.

Sundari,
If your friend, the young lady is going alone- the answer is a big NO,NO! With a husband, it is slightly safer. It depends largely on the area where she will be posted. If it is Lagos or Abuja, it is okay. Life is secure, all Indian stuff is available, there are Indian temples, HUGE Indian populations.
But if it is a oil company in Niger delta, Port Harcourt- tell her not even to think of it, it is very, very unsafe.

My name is Bharath Acharya and i was living in Nigeria specially the militant affected delat region and home for the oil Port Harcourt.. I lived there 2 years and now for the last 3 months i am here for an vacation in india.. For ladies Nigeria is not A safe place to live.. Theres no social life and anything can happen anytime.. Though in my last days there no big robberies and kidnappings of oil workers been reported as the govt and milintants were negotiating it is advisable to goo to better countries than nigeria.. Some countries like cameroon, ghana, angola , kenya , tanzania are better place to live than nigeria.. And for a women i wil put a big question mark???????????????????????????????

~Abha | Hello Abha,
What you said about Kenya is very wrongRant, i will tell you why the maids kill for food and it is the first time i am hearing i have been born and brought up in Nairobi, we have 4 african servants at home working for us. The people or expats coming from India under pay their servants, they mistreat them, they don't even give them food, they discriminate them and they are loud, i have witnessed all this. so next time have your facts right.

dear sukan,
i too have stayed in nigeria.i would say the same NO.lagos & abuja is ok but none of the oil producing state .
currently ,we r in Uganda which is beautiful country & safe too.
also,i agree with Alpa that pls do not go on hear say.all these years i never heard of a maid killing her mistress or a driver kidnapping employees.in both these countries i used to read local newspaper but never i read about such incidents.
as Alpa says treat well get treated well.it goes with India & elsewhere in the world too

I am a Nigerian, so i guess i could give you lots of info on Nigeria. For an indian, if its Lagos or Abuja, it is quite safe.If its just an office job and does not involve going offshore, then she is safe. If not, then she should not bother coming. whites and expatriates here are being targeted and kidnapped for money. Hope this helps

Hi Jaygirl
I was in Lagos for a couple of years. I was in VGC. I heard a lot of horrible stories about Nigeria before I went there. But during my stay, thank God, I didn't encounter any such incident. I should say one thing about Nigerians - they are very very friendly. I am still in touch with a couple of my Nigerian friends. May be the location of stay also matters.
Its nice knowing you. Keep in touch.
