Default Oonjal

Oonjal is one of the beautiful proceedings with the girl putting an 'aandal kondai' and the guy holding her hands in 'manjal veshti' . I like it for simply the sight. With mamis in colorful sarees putting rice balls all around.

Actually I wud like to know what each ceremony stands for.Gimme the link if anyone of u know.

Really enjoyed reading and going through one of the links given in Sawnet.
Highly recommend this if one wants to see the positive intercultural flows between east and west

"How we got married" (or "The Cool-Ass Multicultural Hybrid Wedding-Thingy" ), by Melinda and Dorai Iyer.

And also from here to darshani.com

Blondie - the links you gave were great - I loved going through the multi-cultural weddings! Last year, we had a similar situation in our family as well. My husband's nephew married an American - the wedding was held in TX. We had a one hour abbreviated south Indian wedding - we had the oonjal and other traditions. For this part, women were dressed in saris and ghagara cholis - including the girl's grandmother and the men were in sherwani's. We had a break and everyone changed into Tuxedos and dresses for the American wedding. It was an amazing confluence of both cultures - we had a memorable time!!
