Default Anniversary Gift

Dear All,
Seeing other ILites write stories I was inspired to write one. This is my first attempt. Please bear with me if you find it very silly.

Anniversary Gift
-----------------------------------------
This story is about Nisha and Amit, a married couple. Let us look at the turns
and turmoils of their life.
"Amit, Amit, Get up!!! Its getting late...". Nisha was yelling from the kitchen.
She was packing her lunch box. It was 7.40 a.m. Only 20 minutes left for her
office bus to arrive. Amit got ready in a jiffy. He stuffed the parathas in his
mouth and both of them rushed to office.

Nisha was very happy. Their first wedding anniversary was to come. She was
thinking "Oh, Just 3 more days for the day. We have to make it a very memorable
day". She had already got loads of gift for Amit. She was going to surprise him.
She was blushing thinking about what Amit will gift her. "A diamong ring or a
silk saree". Or he may not gift her anything she thought.
Nisha was a happy go lucky girl. She was young and wanted to enjoy life to the
maximum extent. She never expected anything big from Amit. She just longed for
small small things. Like going together for a movie or to park. She expected
some small gifts from Amit on her birthday or other ocassions. Atleast a
greeting card. She loved surprises and always surprised Amit with gifts.
Amit was a typical man. He did not understand the woman's mind. He never
expressed his love. Amit was not a romantic person. He was a cool and calm guy.
Never forced Nisha with any of his decisions. He got Nisha whatever she asked
for. But never got something on his own. Nisha always used to tease and tell.
"Amit, Its going to be one year since our marriage and you have not got anything
for me. Not even a chocolate.". It was then that her collegue Lakshmi interupted
her.
Lakshmi: Kya baat hai Nisha aaj kal bahut khush ho... Whats up?
Nisha: Hey.. Next week is our first anniversary. I am very excited about it.
Lakshmi: Cool man. You have to treat us all.
Nisha: Sure
Lakshmi: So, what is Amit gifting you?
Lakshmi didnt even wait for the answer. She started "You know my husband gifted
me a diamond set on our anniversary. Do you know the cost? Its 1,00,000. blah
blah"
Nisha was thinking "Hope Amit gifts me something. Or else what will I tell
everyone".
It was eve of their anniversary. Nisha was very dull. Amit had not talked
anything about their anniversary plans. She had reminded him many times. She
thought Amit does not care for her.

She was not in a mood to work. It was still 11 a.m. She told her boss that she
is not well and took off from office. She came out of office still thinking how
can Amit be so indifferent about their anniversary. She was crossing the road
and didnt notice the speeding lorry. The lorry driver applied brakes. But it was
too late. Nisha was lying on the road in a pool of blood.
Nisha was in ICU of a hospital. She had come out of coma after 30 hours. Her
friends and colleagues visited her. Her eyes were searching for the most loved
one. But she could not find Amit. She could not control her tears.
Nurse Rita was their in ICU to attend to her.
Rita: Mrs.Nisha, You are very luck. You have such good friends and colleagues.
Nisha was thinking when her husband himself was so indifferent what was the use.
Rita: And your husband. I dont know what to tell about him. You are very lucky
to have him as your husband.
Nisha looked at the nurse.
Rita: When you were brought to the hospital, your husband was acting like a mad
man. He was crying and yelling that he too will die if something happens to you.
He refused to eat or drink anything until you came out of coma. He didnt even
sleep. He had lost both his physical and mental strength. Finally he was given
injection forcibly and put to sleep.
Still tears were flowing from Nisha's eyes. But these tears were different.
Amit had regained his consciousness. He ran to the ICU. As soon as he saw Nisha
he hugged her and cried uncontrollably.
Nisha was lost in thoughts again. She had got the most precious gift long back
when she got married. She then remembered that today was their anniversary. But
she no more expected gifts.

Good one devotee....in this materialistic world, one can't have a better gift than this.

Also never get carried away by what others have to say or have experienced.

We really don't know whether her colleague had received a gift worth 1 lakh or was she just fabricating the whole thing.

Roopa.
