Red face Re: Goan/Mangalorean recipes

Todays recipe is goan fish curry.
This is how i usually prepare fish curry.
Wash approx 5-6 king fish slicesand salt them for 15 mins and wash again.

Soak a lemon sized ball of tamarind in a bowl of water.

Grind 1/4 cup grated coconut,1/4 tsp cumin seeds,1/2 tsp coriander seeds,2 cloves garlic,1/2 tsp turmeric and 6-7 kashmiri chillies.Add 1-2 chillies more if needed .The masala should have a bright orange colour.

In a vessel put the ground masala,2 slit green chillies, the extracted tamarind water,2-3 curry leaves and 1 cup water.Bring it to a boil.Add the fish slices.add salt.cook till fish is done.Add kokum if you need to when the curry is boiling if the curry is spicy.check for salt and spiciness.

Same masala can be used for prawn curry.Only you can add ladyfinger once the curry comes to a boil.

Hi

Fiona: Looking forward to your recipes.

Meenaprakash:Well I do have a few vegetarian recipes. Will post them soon. But mainly its non veg recipes.Mostly fish and chicken.

Excellent recipe for Fish Curry. Very authentic.

Can anybody share with me a recipe for Samar Masala that is used to prepare prawn curry? I have tried the ones posted on Goan sites on the net but none of them compare with my grandmother's recipe, which unfortunately is no longer available.

Thanks
Goan Peeshibonk
