Thumbs up Re: 'She sits there ,a flower among flowers.....'

Dear Mithila Madam,

Hats off to your crispy expression on such a heavy subject. Few lines written on a subject thats is argued and fought for ages.....yet having a profound impact on the readers.

In one of your replies you had mentioned that if one feels strongly about something, the conviction flows through in the form of words....Yes...I totally agree with this for I have felt this myself in my life....some of my small scribblings are also outcome of this

Cheers
Jenz

My dear Mithila,

Fantastic piece on such a burning topic.......the evils of the dowry system ...inspite of bans it still rears its ugly head resulting in the annihilation of beautiful , fragrant flowers as you have portrayed in your poignant poem .
You have painted such a beautiful picture of the young girl in all her bridal finery ...so vivid are the lines ...one could see the blushing face and hear her heartbeats in anticipation of the beginning of her new life in her husband's home.Your descriptive verse gives the feel that one is watching it on celluloid!
The scene shifting abruptly to the harrassment by all the in-laws who descend upon her like vultures, is very well crafted ..and really brings tears to the readers eyes. The tragic close is ofcourse inevitable for such is the destiny of this fragrant blooming flower. It leaves one helpless and despondent at first , but it also makes us aware of our responsibilities and duties to ensure that such a horrendous fate
does not fall on other blooming colourful fragrant flowers.
Great work dear Mithila ! encore ! encore !

warm regards,
PAULINA

Hey,

What a beautiful poem ! Read many times... nice one, indeed. Thought provoking too !! The words used are really wonderful !

To me, both giver and the acceptor are at fault. May be, let the future generations think about this "stupid" practise and hope this practise will get abolished/nullified, very soon. Let's see !!

Dear Mithila,

Paulina has nominated this in the FP of the month. And I have now read this heart breaking story of the crushed and burnt flower.
It has left my mouth dry and and my eyes wet.
Will this dowry practice ever die in our country? Our girls may be beautiful, educated, efficient---yet---they don't seem to be completely free from this dowry curse. Dowry also changes form you know...it takes the form of cars, scooters, motorbikes, grand weddings and other formless things like pride, custom, honor.
I feel like screaming out...die dowry die!
Yes, it is the dowry that should die and not our lovely girls.
Very touching.
L, Kamla

My dear kamla,
There seem to be many faces to this dowry practice. On the one hand the boy's side pestering for dowry, they cleverly do it after marriage takes place,so that the parents of the girls are helpless. On the otherside, knowing that this is wrong and that they are buying a man without self respect the girls' parents go ahead and sell anything they have to give the demanded dowry thinking that their girls marriage will thus be a happy one.
There are also girls who do not mind their parents being harased, their arguement is"they will be giving this dowry only once,so what, let them struggle a little and pay".
So which face will we care to erase.
All educated girls and boys should take a vow on their marriage day that they will not give or take dowry for their children and should keep up their promise.Awakening can happen only from the side of these youngesters.
Thanks kamla for your nice comment.
love

Dear Mithila,

A very fine poem. I don't have enough words to express. It was like viewing a fine art in a gallery.

Hi Mrs. Mithila,

A touching poem on a heavy subject....

Very nicely brought out the mental agony and trauma of a little flower being crushed......

I pray that this evil ends and no girls suffer hereafter due to this.....

Bye
