| Malathi, What a poem! Not just a poem, it is a stuti, a psalm, a hymn! Your friend has written from his soul. You know what this poem reminded me of. Let me explain. There have been waves in poetry from old ballads to most modern The Fib.This poem is more the classical type. The ones like Father Williams, Squirrel and the Mountain. Something Longfellow about this. This is tuff that should be prescribed, memorised at 10 years and then recalled when one is 80years in fulfilled tranquillity.Your friend/ our friend should write more and more. God has been unfair to him yet again (by his own admission). He has given him the gift of true poetry. Thanks MJ for showcasing this here. Shows you are a good poet and a good human being. These days, it is passe to post just anything going roundabout without mentioning the source. You have done all right here. affly Vidya |

| Dear Malathi The sentiment that ran through this poem reminded me of the celebrated Malayalam poet and an ardent devotee of Lord Guruvayurappan. The poet's only son fell into a pot of boiling rice on his first birthday and died. Such a cruel episode might have turned anyone an atheist but Poonthanam became an intense devotee of Guruvayurappan. With his dead son on his lap, he was supposed to have sung the praise of Guruvayurappan. His Gnanappana is recited in Kerala on a regular basis and one of the stanzas was sung by MSS in her Carnegie Hall Concert. The song is given below with the meaning: Kandu kandangirikkum janangale, Kandilennu varuthunnathum Bhavan Randu nalu dinam kodangoruthane, Thandilethi naduthannathum bhavan Malika mugalileriya mannante, Tholil marappu kethunnathum Bhavan The people who is seen by all of us now ,. You are the one who makes them Not to be seen in this world. In a matter of day or two You are He, who makes them ride on the royal chair. On the shoulder of the king who climbs to the top of palace. You are He , who places the tattered heap. Sri

| thanks Malathi for bringing this poem into light.. Hats off to his maiden attempt. This reminds me of a saying that -God did not give me what i want, but He gave me what I need'.. Cheeniya Sir, I have heard MS sing that song, i don't know the significance of that song then, now with the meaning and its circumstance I think I wouldn't forget it at all.. It is great and what a great soul Poonthanam is...and I admire his state of mind... sriniketan |

| Our common 'good friend' guided me to this post of your's Malathi and I am glad and thankful. I often doubt and wonder and worry...But being here amongst all of you, I have learnt to be more patient and have learnt to accept God's will with more complacency for He/She knows best what is good for us. This poem underlines that belief. Thanks for bringing it to us and I too appreciate the way you have acknowledged your friend's poem. A beautiful poem...I am so deeply touched by its sentiment that I almost forgot to praise its beauty! L, Kamla |
