| | Oil-free Pakora
Hi folks....
With the idea of my hubby, tried out Oil-free Onion Pakora. It came out very well. So nowadays, we are making it on regular basis. It has taken its place as a important side-dish in our menu.
Very happy to share with you all : The procedure with photos !!
For serving 2-3 people :
(1) Take besan/corn grits, this time, I used corn-grits - 1 tumbler
(2) Rice flour - 1/4 tumbler or even less.
(3) Red chilli powder - 1 tea spoon
(4) Salt to taste
(5) Add curry leaves (4-5)
(6) Ginger Julienne ( if you like that taste )
(7) Onion (Big size) - 1
I used White onion for this pakora, you can use any type of onion.
Add all the above content in the vessel and mix it well with water and let the mixture for 5-10mins covered.
After 10mins, spread out the mixture in the glass vessel. Keep the mixture in the microwave oven for 6mins and take it out. That's it ...
Onion Pakora is ready to serve.
I made Tomato rice and had this "White"Onion Pakora as the side-dish. We really enjoyed !!!
Hope you can also enjoy eating a "Healthy" Pakora !!
Best wishes.....

Hi gowri,
Thanks for sharing the recipe alongwith photos. It looks great. I have a doubt whether it tastes raw.Do we have to make it so thin that the onions are visible.Pls clarify.
Can you also share any other oil-free recipes here so that others will also enjoy health-free dishes.

Wow, I have been looking for oil-free snacks for a while now, this sounds so easy!
Couple questions though -
Did you cook it in the MW on HIGH?
Won't rice flour be raw?
How much water did you use?
Thanks!

Dear Vani,
Thanks for the immediate feedback..
It will be better for Pakora, if the onions are thin. If the onion size is big, it will appear to be like bajji !!
It won't taste raw, as it is cooked fully.
You can try out the same procedure with cabbage, methi leaves, peanuts.. I have been doing this for a long time.
Best wishes.

Thanks ....
Yeah. ..Microwave should be on High.
You are going to add rice flour just for blending the mixture. As it is also cooked well. It won't smell/taste raw.
Water...Just enough to mix the flours(both corn grits+rice flour) may be less than half tumbler, in this case.
Best wishes.

Dear Cindhuja,
Thanks dear...for your encouraging words.
It will be crispy to some extent. If you keep them in Microwave for another 1-2 mins, the texture will change, it will become "morumoru" pakora.
Regarding sticking with the vessel... Yes, it does stick a bit , if you apply some 1-2 drops oil with water in the glass plate. Their won't stick to the glass, either.
Best wishes.

| | Re: Oil-free Pakora Wow ! Gowri ! At last you've posted this Oil-free Pakora today. The method seems interesting and healthy.....but don't we have to turn the mixture in between, so that they get cooked evenly? Also, do we have to cook the mixture uncovered? Cheers Krithika |
