| Hi Supriya, Using salad dressing is totally up to us. There are different types of dressings, the creamy one like ranch, thousand island , blue cheese etc... then the simple vinaigrettes( like Italian) Usually for a simple salad made only of lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes etc... i keep it simple with just some salt pepper and lime juice. While eating greens like baby spinach, arugula, and similar greens, i like to use a fruity vinaigrette like raspberry vinaigrette so that the slightly sweet taste balances out the bitterness of the greens, For coleslaw; i vary between creamy dressings and simple ones. For pasta salad just a little olive oil with fresh herbs. Some use balsamic vineger too as dressing, but i don't like the taste and have never tried it on salads. Hope this gives you a rough idea. |

| For Indian Type salads : Lemon Juice, Cumin Powder, Black/Rock Salt and Red Chilli Powder makes a yummy dressing For American Style Salads requiring Creamy Dressing : Whisk 1/2 cup yogurt with 1/4 cup oil, salt , black pepper and dried or fresh herbs (basil, parsley, mint) For American Style Salads requiring Vinagraitte - Whisk 1/4 cup oil with 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, salt, black pepper and dried or fresh herbs. You can also add in some freshly grated cheese such as parmesan. If you like garlic, you can add some chopped garlic as well. I find these home-made salad dressings to be more tasty than store-brought ones as they are free of preservatives and ofcourse, more fresh! Also, if you are strict veg and don't consume eggs, then read the indegrients of the store salad dressings before buying as many contain eggs or mayonnaise.
