Oats, quinoa, buckwheat flakes, wheat are good. In dairy, take cottage cheese, and other cheeses. Also sprouted mung is good.

Here is what I do for a low-carb veg diet.

For breakfast - soy burgers or high fiber bread with almond butter or high fiber bread with a slice of cheese

For Snacks - String Cheese or Unsalted Nuts or a Glass of Buttermilk or Protein Shakes such as Pure Protein or Atkins

For Lunch/Dinner - Lots of Veggies, a bowl of dal or yogurt, 2 chappatis or 1/2 cup of rice

Post Dinner Snack - Cheese with crackers or a glass of warm milk or handful of nuts

I don't avoid things like potatoes or white rice etc. Just have it in moderation. For pasta, I buy cheese n spinach tortellini since the cheese balances out the pasta itself. Ideally, you should consume no more than 200gms of carbs per day, and atleast 60-100 gms of protein per day.

Make sure and have breakfast, lunch, dinner and atleast 2 snacks each day. Doing the low carb diet, your calories automatically get reduced and this helps greatly with weight loss and improvement of general health.

Hope this helps.

Pooja

Hi Sriha,

First, is there any special reason for your doctor to suggest Low carb diet?
Second, if you are a healthy person with normal weight, then it is better to have a diet where there is a moderation of carbs, protein and fiber.

Carbohydrates do have a lot of fibre too. People going for a drastic Carb free/low carb diet suffer from constipation and other complications.

But still if you want to add more proteins then you can include lot of beans in your diet..like chickpeas, red beans, pinto, black beans, black eyed peas etc to make curries, sundal etc. Also dhals are an excellent source of protein too.

Salads are a good form to include veggies and protein when you mix & match with different kinds of leafy greens and beans. Dressings can be of your choice.

You can also go through the RECIPE INDEX given by Mrs.Chithra. She has compiled an excellent collection of Salads, fruit diets, raw food diet etc.

Cheers
Krithika ( Jithiks)
