Hi ladies: I know brown rice is good for health especially when we are dealing with weight and flab issues. But can anyone tell me where we get brown rice in the USA and which brand is the best. Also is there anything like sona masoori brown rice and if so where do we get it? Did you try cooking it and do we actually cook like the white rice? Waiting for a response Thanks a lot Kwathi

Kwati, You can get brown rice from the local American stores. It is available only in small packets. You can try one and see it is upto your taste. Cook like the white rice but with more water. Other ilites might give you details of sona masoori brown rice..let's wait. sriniketan

Dear IL'ites, In most diet tip articles, they say that brown rice is better than white rice. Similarly, they say brown bread is better than white bread. Can someone help explain why is that the case and also what is difference in ingredients between brown and white rice? How much are IL'ites following this advice? Any tips on making brown rice taste as good as white? Thanks for the information.

| It has got a lots of benefits .If you eat brown rice or bread it will turn into sugar in your body slowly - so it gives energy for longer period and your blood sugar level will be balanced .

Its been long since I started this thread on brown rice. I am now using brown rice since 2 months and YES definitely I say it makes a difference. You dont feel heavy after meals which usually happens with white rice and till your next meal time ie., atleast 5hrs you dont feel hungry. Your energy levels also go up and your digestion is proper . Also brown rice has lot of fibre in it which is why you are not constipated. Brown rice can be cooked like white rice except it needs prior soaking in the water you use for cooking for atleast 20mins. Tastes like white rice only much better. kwathi
