Surprising Foods to Reduce Acne

    Don’t we all yearn for that unblemished clear skin without acne? With pollution, lifestyle and processed foods, acne rules the skin these days. Apart from a healthy skin regimen, foods have a great influence on the skin. These are foods that help to keep acne at bay but also good in maintain overall good health. Check out this list and try incorporating them in your daily diet to have a clear acne-free skin.

    Foods High in Water Content

    wd93.jpg Water, as we know flushes toxins from the system and keep the body hydrated. Along with drinking eight glasses of water a day, eat foods that are high in water content, such as watermelon, cucumber, oranges, yogurt, strawberries, leafy greens, cauliflower and pineapples are few foods that are rich in water content to release the toxins.

    Foods Rich in Vitamin C
    g349.jpg Vitamin C is great for repairing the skin but also strengthens the body against skin infections. Since Vitamin C is found in several natural foods, increase your intake of Vitamin C in your daily diet. Tomatoes, oranges, cherries, papaya,guava, amla, kiwi fruit and leafy greens are some foods that are rich in Vitamin C.

    Foods with Magnesium

    s3049.jpg Brown Rice, Almonds, lentils, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and dark leafy greens are rich in magnesium. Magnesium acts as a hormonal regulator, which helps to fight acne.

    Go low on sodium ,sugar and oil

    g3x.jpg It does not matter how much you may eat healthy, if you are ruining your health with high processed foods that are high in salt, sugar and oil. Go low on such foods, which will cut down the level of acne significantly. Instead, go high on foods that are rich in antioxidants that will increase the blood flow to the skin. Green Tea, berries, flax seeds, spinach will help you prevent those acne breakouts.

    Less Carbs but High Protein

Excess sugar in blood glucose levels led to increase in the production of androgen a hormone related with acne. It is seen that a diet that has low GI value and high protein led to great reduction in acne. Therefore, reduce intake of white rice, millet, potatoes, white bread, litchi, beans, carrots and other processed foods. Lean meat, dairy products, pulses, peanuts and lentils are some foods that are high in protein. It is wise to keep both carbohydrates and protein in moderation to obtain best results.
