| Hi Shanvy, For me , it is Atlas Shrugged - I keep going back to it many times. I admire the core personality of Dagny. And ofcourse Fransisco! I quite like Ayn Rand's philosophy of 'objectivism' (not really capitalism! And I like her writing style too. But I have always wondered about why she committed suicide? Incidentally, when we got married, I discovered that I and my husband both had our own copies of some Ayn Rand's books (and a few others). Patted ourselves on the back for choosing a spouse with the same wavelength!! Cheers, Sumathy |

| hi sumathy, Nice to know more Ayn Rand fans here. I like atlas shrugged also but somehow partial to fountainhead. I know that she wrote about suicide. She had a view point of taking one's life.. but she died of heart failure. She did not commit suicide.

| BC, She was from russia, a witness to the life of russians during the two revolutions. the family lost their business with the communist coming into power.she actually got interested in usa when she learnt american history at school. Ayn rand, came to us from russia, she had told that she was going for a short visit and came to us though she never planned to return back. She started her career as a screenplay writer in hollywood. and she wrote a few plays. her first book we the living is about the life in russia as she experienced,it seems it was rejected many times before being finally published. interestingly the fountainhead which is an all time favourite of her fans for her definition of a ideal hero (Howard roark, the architect) and heroine was also rejected almost 12/15 times before being printed. Then she wrote atlas shrugged which was one of her greatest novel. during the process of writing this book, she felt the need to identify the philosophies that are necessary to make the fictional heroes real. thus came in objectivism. the philosophy for living on earth. she lectured on this for quite long. apart from this she edited and published periodicals too. these were the source for the books on objectivism. now there is an ayn rand institute. On the personal front, ayn rand married Frank connor actor and was married for 50 years till his death, and they did not have any children by a mutual decision..(though interesting do wonder why?) to quote her Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one's values. Pride is the recognition of the fact that you are your own highest value and, like all of man’s values, it has to be earned. That which you call your soul or spirit is your consciousness, and that which you call 'free will' is your mind's freedom to think or not, the only will you have, your only freedom, the choice that controls all the choices you make and determines your life and your character.
