Default Online Reading Club

Hi All,

I was thinking of starting a new thread - an online reading club - here for people who are interested in reading books.

Most of us would be reading different types of books, some of us probably once or twice a month, or even three or four books every week. So, if you like any particular book that you are reading and would recommend others to read it, please post it here. We can also probably tell each other what we liked about that book (I have gone through the other threads here, and we do have a lot of fantastic reviewers here), so that others who would like to read it would also get interested in it.

And yes, no spoilers :)!

I was thinking of one good book every month, hoping that is a good pace for everyone of us to follow. The first week of the month, we'll get suggestions from each other on good books to read that month, and then review the "chosen one" - the one that most people recommend reading. And the rest of the month we'll read the book as well as write reviews about the previous month's book(s).

So, before we start, I would like to hear from people if you find this idea interesting. The month of February is about to end, so I guess that would leave us about three or four days to get responses. If everyone is happy with this idea, we can start in March.

Also, if you have a suggestion or ideas based on this, please let me know.

So, please let me know what you think. Looking forward to your responses :)!

Hi Maddie,
that seems to be a good idea.....i am also a few books . But my problem is i cannot get hold of many good books , i mean english. So will join in whenever there is something i have read or will get here in that month.
Right now i am done with a couple of Danille Steele.....were okay books, nothing interesting.
One good read and a must recommended already by Varalotti was Paulo Coelho's the witch of Portobello! I also really liked the book.
I am raeding Kiterunner by Khaled Hosseini....good one. I saw the movie also by the same name. GOOD ONE!

Lets start and see.......all the best!

Hi Sudha
Thanks a lot for your warming response. Thanks for the book suggestion. I am currently reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz.

I have read both the books suggested by you and it was an excellent read specially The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Since you are reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, why don't we choose that book as the book for the month of March? I am sure everyone of you can easily find a copy near your local library. What do you say guys? If anyone has any other book suggestions please do post.

We can discuss about the book and post our views as we read the book. I have already read a review written by a fellow member for this book in the forum but still it is a great book and great way to start our online book club.

Once we decide the book. We can set questions for discussion, it would be a great way to start a reading group.

Suggestions are more than welcome.

Regards
Maddie

Hi Anand Chitra,

Thanks a lot. Yes there will be a discussion, which will to be provide a brief summary of the book along with several discussion questions written specifically for a given book.

We haven't selected a single book as yet for the month of March. Any suggestion would be more than welcome.

Regards
Maddie

Hi to all

Choosing a book for the month of March.

There is countless selection of titles available . So I would ask the members who is interested in a group to suggest a book. For example, each member might submit an idea she has for a book and then the group would discuss the selections and vote. Two more days to go for March. If anyone interested please do write.

I have started this thread with the soul intention to unite the booklovers. Booklovers who have time and those who don't have time to read. Through this thread I would want to revive the lovely habit of reading and discussing about the books we read.Reason being each individual has a different perspective and idea. It would be fun to know everyone's perspective on a book.

Regards
Maddie

maddie,

A good idea.

I am an voracious reader. Kite runner is a good choice, but will it be everybody' cup of tea. Maybe the first two months you should take up books that are read, and are liked by all...

it is only my suggestion....
