"God Bharai ki Rasm" Do You Know?

"God Bharai ki Rasm" is a ritual which is followed by Hindu in North India. This ritual is performed before marriage. In this the brother of groom use to put various stuffs(Jewellery, clothes, fruits etc) in the bride's lap.

There is a particular ceremony in most of the Indian marriages where the groom's female relatives perform the ceremony called the "God Bharai Rasam" for the bride. In this ceremony they shower upon the bride gifts and sweets. Clothes, jewellery and cosmetics are also given to the bride. In order to symbolize a prosperous married life blesses with children, a small doll is also given to the bride.

God Bharai Rasam is also done when a woman is pregnant. God Bharai means your God meaning your arms are being filled, meaning you are going to have a baby in your arms soon. and Rasam basically means ritual. This is when the family gives blessing to the pregnant daughter and blessing for the well being of the baby. and brings toys and clothes for the baby to come.

Last month only my friend Renu celebrated God Bharai rasam.She asked her mother-in- law as to when they plan to do my godbharai and she said that they don't have that tradition in their family.She was so excited about it that she don't want to be deprived of it.Then I suggested her why don't you talk to your mom and told them to do from their side.

Finally she celebrated God Bharai.
She wore new sari and got some jewellery's from mother in law. its really fun to be the center of attraction of everyone.She got lots of gifts too.

By and Large I enjoyed a lot.

God bhari ki rasam s celebrated as Sreemantham in Andhrapradesh for the pregnant women.
Its done on 5th/7th/9th month of pregnancy.
The pregnant women is given glass bangles and her lap is filled with different fruits and sweets.Its generally done by in laws and at some places they do sreemantham twice i.e at in laws place and then at parents home after the lady s sent there for delivary.
It actually depends on the families customs and traditions.Its a colorful and funfilled occassion........
