Passport Renewal In Indian Embassy @ Washington !

Hi All....anybody have any experienence with Inidan passport renewal @ our washington consulate ?

Most importantly i need to know if we apply in person , would the new passport be delivered the same day ?

I heard if u r applying in person in replacement to expiring/ expired passport,u will be given on same day.

if u are applying for name change,i might take time?BTW for what purpose are u applying for??

Thanks.....! I'm just renewing my expired Indian passport ! I know that the rest of the Indian embassies in US issue a new passport the same day....but not the washington embassy, their website doesnt give any clear indication, hence wanted to check if anyone here had an answer !

If this info is still relevant/useful...

submit passport for renewal before 12 noon.

If everything OK return at 4 pm to collect new/extended passport.

If choose to have the passport mailed back, it takes 1 to 2 weeks.

Did you get the passport the same day? I want to apply for the same at Washington DC. Not sure if they give it back the same day. Please advise. Thanks

Do you have to pay the expedited fee of $90 plus the $40 processing fee for this? And can you pay cash at the counter or does it have to be a cashiers check? Please advise. Thanks,

As Blondie pointed out, please make every effort to get the application in before 12 (I would get there first thing in the morning). We have known people who have been turned away as they got there closer to noon. They don't care how far you have driven or anything else.

Ladies.....to the ebst of my knowledge, u can drop of yr passport before 12 noon....but U DO NOT GET YOUR PASSPORT BACK ON THE SAME DAY - 100% POSITIVE, as when i went there i had to collect my passport the NEXT DAY ONLY AFTER 4 PM !

Also i read in some Indian embassy sites, that it states that u can pickup yr passport same day.....BUT ITS NOT TRUE....maybe the info there is outdated !

I went to Washington ...so i can say for sure delivery is only next day !
