Default Re: Pass port renewal

You will need to fill in an online passport application form, get a hard copy of it and send it to the concerned Indian Consulate / Embassy along with notarized copy of your status proof (Visa, Green Card etc), Address proof, Copy of passport and the passport in original. You can apply for renewals 1 year in advance from the date of expiry of the passport. If you are applying for a minor, more documentations are needed. Please verify with the Indian Consulate / Embassy website.

Processes and processing time may vary slightly in different consulates. By the way, if you live in Texas, you are supposed to apply in Houston Consulate and not NYC. Jurisdiction is mandatory. Normal processing time may take 10 working days or so, but it again varies depending on various criteria like the previous passport issuing authority etc. So better apply as early as possible and give enough time for the processing before your passport gets expired or before any of your scheduled trips.
