Thumbs up EAD for H4 visa holders

Dear all,

I must first appreciate IL for being a great meeting point for Indian women across the world!!!

I joined IL only today and I have an important request/news/announcement to make.

Well, it is in two parts though:

1. There is an online petition, that requests work permit for H4 visa holders. Please have a look at the link below:
H4 Dependant Visa Holders Should be Allowed to Work Petition
All of you who are H4 visa holders and suffering the "no-work permit" kindly sign it. It will not take more than few seconds.

2. Now, part two of this, This September arround labor day, Senator Charles Schumer's "COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL" is going to become a legislation. You can have a look at this in the link below:
Senator Charles E. Schumer

If you have a look at that, you will under that principles 5 and 6 are in favour of the legal immigration system. I have searched high and low over the internet to find out more details about this bill but could not!

So, now what I am suggesting is that, this is one good opportunity to put forward our problem as well, in time for this proposal. Once you sign the petition please send an email regarding the same along with the link in this contact page Senator Charles E. Schumer to the senator. I have been sending emails through this contact page and am receving some responses. But it would be nice if there are more people signing the petition and sending in emails regarding this problem.

Thanks much for your patience in reading the post and Thanks in advance for considering it!
-Sudha.

Default Re: EAD for H4 visa holders

Sudha..
I can see your enthusiastic glittery future vision for H4 visa holders to be free and working in US, but it wont happen for several reasons, dont ask me what are they.
There are MANY and MUCH More high level legal immigration issues are ahead to be fixed before H4 stuff. H4 is essentially a dependent visa. It will remain like that. If the H4 Visa holder is able to work, she/he needs to go for a H1 Channel.
In any event, I personally think that the H4 work rights petition may not work (you can check my message after several years, which will hold true even later).
On the other hand, CIR (COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL) has been hanging for years, each time some senators are pushing it and its sitting right there. Obama recently announced that he wont touch the immigration (includes this CIR) till 2010. so, no need to dig it for more then a year from now.

About the 5,6 points in the senator's CIR benefits list that you are referring, its talking about the GC/Citizenship IMMEDIATE allocation for the spouses and kids of a GC/Citizenship holder(not they need to wait for a long time). But its not talking about the legal (non-resident) visas, its talking about the permanent resident (GC).

So, the CIR got NOTHING in it for H4 visa holders.
