Hi Amitha, Just make sure that your son's visa entitles him to stay beyond 6 months in India. Also ask the airlines for a bassinet during the flight...and for a bulk head row seat... There are many more suggestions in the Parenting section for infants...check out http://www.indusladies.com/forums/in...ndia-trip.html love, Aarushi

Thanks Aarushi. Whew!!! I never thought of so many things about travelling to India. Anyway it is good that you guided me to that link. However my requirement is different. Maybe I was not very specific. My question is - I want to know what is the procedure for applying for VISA for the kid. I have no idea and nobody to guide. Please help. Amitha

Hi Amitha, Check on the Indian Embassy website. I cannot recollect the form number. You have to fill up that form. It gives you all the options - getting from travellers visa to 10 year visa. American passport is for a max of 5 years but you can apply even 10 year visa for the infant. After 5 years when you make the passport again you can either get the visa trfd to the new passport or carry 2 passports - expired one which still has the visa if u have applied for 10 years + the new passport. You have to mail the original passport for your kid and the cashiers check (for the fees- they do not accept personal checks I think) along with that form. If you go personally to Indian embassy you get the visa the same day. If you are mailing give at least 2-4 weeks depending on how you mail them and the traffic they have. I hope this info helps. Take care Seema

Okay, here's the thing. I went to the Indian Embassy website and they say that the VISA processing has been outsourced to "Travisa Outsourcing". When I contacted them they told me that I have to apply for an "Entry VISA" for my son, since I am planning to stay there for more than 6months. An Entry VISA allows the person to stay for more than six months and is given for 5years. I have a concern here: - Long back I had heard from a friend of my husband that VISA can be taken for 15 years. Is there anything like that? Am I going in the right track? Should I do something else? Please advise. I need urgent help, because we are planning to travel in the first week of September and I have to get this VISA work done before that. Please please please somebody help me. Amitha

Thank you so much Swarnavarma. I searched for the PIO card information on Indian Embassy website and got all the details. I have informed my husband. I again would like to thank all you ladies for your sincere help. Amitha
