PIO card is valid for 15 years.. ur baby can visit india any number of times, without a visa, during those 15 years.and he/she can stay 6months in india during each visit.if u want to stay more than 6 months, then u hav to get a police clearence in india for the baby. then the baby can stay as long as u wish, even for years, at the same time without losing US citizenship.
hope this helps u.

Default Re: Urgent!!!- PIO card registration

Can anyone provide me the detailed documents/check list needed to apply for PIO card, do we need to go in person or can we apply over post. The reason i ask is if there is anything needed, then getting the card might be delayed right??

First get the Birth Certificate and SSN for the baby, then get a couple of passport size photos for the baby. Then fill in the passport application and go to the local post office with the photographs, application and the original Birth certificate, you can pay the fees in cash at the post office. They will take the original birth certificate as well, later you will receive the passport and birht certificate in the post. This is what I can remember that I followed for my baby. Check the websites for the exact fees and timelines latest. and BTW, Good luck
