Procedure/Questions on Passport Renewal in US

Say you applied for a new passport today, and your new passport is issued on 14 oct, 2008, your old passport will no longer be valid. The consulate will cancel the old passport, keeping the visas inside (that are no longer expired) valid. From now, your new passport will be active.

For Passport Renewal Indian embassy is asking to make payment through "certified cheques".Can anyone of you please let me know the reliable institues/banks in US that issue certified cheques.

You can get the certified checks from the bank you hold your account. Any major banks like bank of america, well fargo etc are reliable. If you have money order option, you may get it from USPS, Western Union or Money Gram. You get money orders even from Walmart or other major super markets.

Hi ,

Can someone list me the necessary documents needed to apply for indian passport renewal in the NY consulate.
Mainly wanted to know if u need to fill in the Nationality Status Verification forms.
I tried reaching them but no answer.

Please help out.

My assumption is that those forms are needed when the passport is expired long ago. If its a normal renewal, usually only the standard procedure needs to be followed.

Docs wud be
1 Online appln form
2 copy of ppt + original ppt
3 visa proof notarized
4 address proof (original utility bill or notarized copy)
