Hi deepika,
As the mistake is in your husbands passport.. you wont be having any problem during your H4. But it may create some nonsense in the near future.. so ask your husband to change the name in his passport by going to indian embassay in the newyork.. i doint know much details about that.. may be some of ilties can give u advise on the procedure..
regards,
ramyaganesh.

A Better alternative would be, go to a local notary and get an "Affidavit" for your name variation. I do have the same situation, my name starts with "SREE" where many of my high school and other certificates got "SRI" (Example: lets say my name is SREEDEVI, that was spelled as SRIDEVI) So, I got an Affidavit in India on Rs 50 Stamp Paper , which says that I am SREEDEVI, I got my name spelled in different documents differently, so, I am declaring that the following names are mine and represents one and only person that is me.... (1) Sreedevi (2) Sridevi ..... and get that affidavit from a notary. Keep such certificate copy along with you (not just for your visa also when where ever you need to prove that you are the spouse of your husband, like while travelling etc). Thats it, An Affidavit is universally acceptable. If you are too serious to get this affidavit and want to take a look at mine, I can spare some time, scan and send you as a model.
Good luck

Hi Sree,
I have similiar problem. My mother's name is "Kowsalya" as per her records and in her passport. But in my passport, her name is written as "kousalya" and she always put signature as "kousalya" only. As my parents are going to visa interview, Iam afraid that this spelling issue may create a problem. After reading ur post, i thought of getting affidavit in this case for my mother's name. It would be kind enough, if u send the model of your affidavit to me. Thanks in advance.

Hi, it should not create any problem for your visa stamping. but ensure you carry your Marriage certificated and your education/experience certificates along.

We had the same issues, actually my dh's name in his pp, we didn't have any problems, when asked we showed certificates etc, then he had to renew his pp and at that time changed the name.
dh said going to consulate in NY and changing names is a big process, so he waited until renewal.
