Need help for understanding Beta HCG

My last LMP was on 18/9/2009. Home pregnancy test was positive. On 05/11/209 I had a scanning and SAC was found. Since my periods were irregular (for abt 30-35 days), on 5/11/2009 SAC was 4 weeks 6 days old. Doctor asked for re-scanning to see heart beat on 18/11/2009. By then it was 6 weeks 6 days. But no heart beat was found. Later doctor adviced for Beta HCG test and asked to come on 26/11/2009. I got the blood test report and HCG level is 22353.0 mIU/ml.

Since I am yet to meet doctor next week, please let me know whether HCG level is proper?

Hope you have some reference values of the lab in the report right??

The count should be within the range specified for your pregnancy period..Say if you are 6 weeks pregnant then they have corresponding count range for that period, indicating the growth of the baby..48 hrs the growth should increase that is to double in quantity indicating normal symptoms

My doctor also suggest me to take BHCG.It is a hormone test.During pregency the level will be increased every day.I am not sure it increased by double or triple.Generally if the HCG level is >5 for pregenent womens in the earlier days.

Beta HCG values should double every 48-72 hrs for the first 5-6 weeks of pregnancy and then slowly decline through the rest of the pregnancy. Even when i found out that i was pregnant they did two blood tests with a period of 48hrs to confirm that my HCG levels have doubled. This is to just see that our pregnancy is sustainable. Everything shall be alright.

Usually the heartbeat is found in the 6th week doctor's say.. But, there have been delayed cases too, they say ! :)

Did they find any change in the size of the yolk sac when you went for the 6th week scan ? I mean from 4th to 6th week, there should have been significant change.

However, dont think anything that worries you.. Wait for your 7th week scan . You should find a heartbeat.. Just keep waiting for that lovely moment !

Generally in the 6th week scan you just see the sac etc. HB can be heard in the 8th or 10th week scan. Youg HCG #'s look fine to me.
