Default baby small by a week..

had my scan/routine check up yest. as per scan reports - my baby is small by a week. the scan shows baby's age to be 34 weeks while as per the mentrual age, it should be 35 weeks.
doc asked me to repeat a scan after 2 weeks and said if the baby is still small, will fix a date and induce labour to do the delivery in advance.
My Questions here are:

1. is it any harm/bad if the baby is 'small'?
2. do baby's growth stops so soon? in my case, im 34 weeks now. is it possible that baby does not grow anymore after 8 months? my mil thinks so. but i assumed baby grew till end..
3. scan/doc said baby's head has descended. and i heard that once head descends, delivery can happen within max of 15-20 days. is it true?
4. how does 'inducing labour' help? is it successful every time? is it mandatory that delivery WILL happen for sure? any complications for inducing labour?
5. is there anything i should ask/check with the doc before agreeing? os anything that i should be worried about?

requesting urgent replies from experienced women and those who have been in similar situations..

thanks in advance!

Hi Jhali,

My replies:-

1. There is no harm if the baby is small, it is helpful for normal delivery. Don't worry there are many factors which determine weight so don't boter at this juncture. Just relax.
2. Even I had read some books saying that baby's growth stops after 8 months, but I put on two kgs weight after 8 months. Guess that's not so true.
3. The head is descended is a good sign. Yes it is true that delivery can happen in two weeks.
4. My water bag broke and had to rush, followed by contractions. They gave me enema. Yes, they do induce labour incase you do not feel the contractions. Think positive. Trust your gynaec. In case, you are opting for normal delivery tell her clearly and ask her what are the possibilities of having a normal delivery and the methods of having them. May be this could help.
5. Check for the EDD and keep your bags packed. You can also ask the gynaec when you need to rush to the hospital. Your gynaec might give you some pointers for the same. Be alert. Continue your prayers.

All the best for a safe and healthy delivery.

Default Re: baby small by a week..

thanks lynette.. for taking the time to reply :).

wel, frankly im not too concerned if it SHOULD be normal or SHOULD be c-section. my only concern is, what is good/safe for the baby. im mentally prepared to suffer myself as long as no harm is done to the baby.

yea, my doc asked me to stop work immediately. but surprising thing is, my EDD is only dec 16. was wondering, if EDD is so far away, then how come im in 9th month (as per last scan baby's measurmemnts correspond to 34 weeks - which indicates i have already started the 9th month). its really confusing...

anyways, today is my last workin day. but have a strong feeling will deliver by this month itself. praying and hoping for the best.. :)

thanks once again...

Don't worry Jhali. Be it normal or c-sec as long as the baby is safe and healthy there is nothing like it .

Even my gynaec told us clearly that one should worry about the child more and not about your comfort of having a normal or a c-sec.

All the best. Will keep you in my prayers.
