Red face dry skin during pregnancy

Hi all,

I am enjoying my pregnancy and the kicks given by my LO.
But, iam not liking to see myself in mirror. Iam looking very dull and my skin esp face is very dry. I have even got black color under my eyes.

are there any home remedies or can i do facial?
If so, please tell me.
I want to look beautiful when my LO see me.

Hi Nimmi,

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Kindly go through the thread "Darkness" by Rishi New. It is on the third page.

You will get some tips there.

Thank you lee for the info. But instead of tips the threadinforms that the dryness will diminish after delivery.

Hi Nimmi,

Please go through the link carefully. One of the IL's has mentioned that coconut oil and olive oil can be used. Do not go for any creams and it is not suitable during pregnancy.

Dear Nimmi,
For dryness of facial skin, apply 1 or 2 drops of warm coconut ( or sesame, if you live in a cold climate) oil on face. Nicely massage all around the face (specially nose, side of cheeks and around eye). Then let it stay for 15-20 mins.. You should see that by then most oil is absorbed. Now, gently wash with 1 spoon of besan + milk ( or water, if u dont like milk smell). Do this for 2 weeks and your face should start glowing. Btw, are u taking prenatals everyday? They should make ur face glow already ( as I hear from other pregnant iLites' posts..)

For black color under eyes, I am not too sure about reason. If lack of sleep/ stress, then catch up on sleep.. Or else, try placing 2 slices of cucumber for 20 mins ( can do it when you wait for coconut oil to absorb on ur face). Also, some people splash rose water on eyes to get rid of stress related dark circles/patches near eye. But, since you are preggs, you might have to ensure you get good quality rose water etc.

Thank you savannas,

Actually the dryness and black color is only on the ends of nose and below lower lip.

does the treatment work on these places?

Hi Nimmi,

You can apply milk cream on the sides of the nose and lips and then wash it off.

You can do a home facial as follows:-

1 tsp cream
1 tsp curd
1 tsp kasturi manjal
1/2 tsp honey
1 tsp oats.

Apply it on your face and wash. In case, you do not have oats you can use the other ingredients mentioned and omit the oats.

Default What skin changes occur during pregnancy?

Many hormones are responsible for the accommodation of the skin. The collagens, collagenase, even the increased progesterone has some effect on the increasedelasticity of the skin during pregnancy.
Some of the most noticeable skin changes during pregnancy involve pigmentation.
The "mask of pregnancy" is one that is often written about. It's a darkening of the skinusually around the sides of the face and the forehead.
There can also be a change of the line down the abdomen. It's usually called a lineaalba, which is a white line. During pregnancy it can become a dark line, called thelinea nigra. This change sometimes occurs as early as the beginning of the secondtrimester, and increases and then disappears probably three to four months afterdelivery.
Some other common changes include little spider veins that pop up in the legs andsometimes on the arms and the abdomen. The reasons why these happen are notquite clear. We know that in many women, these spider veins disappear afterdelivery.
The pigment changes are probably due to the increase in the melanocytestimulatinghormone during early pregnancy, as early as the first month, which thenusually drops off after delivery. We don't know what levels are associated withwomen who get a lot of pigmentation.
Another common skin change during pregnancy is definitely acne. You'll noticeoutbreaks mostly on the face, but sometimes the shoulders and the backs of thearms. Again, there aren't any specific hormones that cause these, but increases inboth estrogen and progesterone are known to cause acne throughout life

Nimmi - Never use besan if your skin is dry... Besan will make your skin even more drier.. I have experienced that myself.. My skin is also dry and I stopped using besan..

Am just using green gram dhal powder(nicely grinded) and not even dove soap.. I use dove for body... Also, try using Aveeno(dermatologist recommonded dry skin cream).. it is really helpful for me..
