Your welcome Priya.

I am sure no harm has been done and now is a good time to be aware for all us pregnant women.

Here's an article I found online

Lead levels in many lipsticks may be too high for pregnant women | BabyCenter

It states clearly which brands have more lead.

I am hoping the lead levels have been reduced in all brands now as this had become such a major issue.

Ladies,

Pregnancy is just 9 months right,so why do we all pregnant women totally avoid cosmetics during prenancy.I even avoid fragrances and all kind of synthetic items now,if my skin i dry I use coconut oil and wash my face and dont use any creams for that,I should admit I have used cosmetics for almost 5-6 years and saw how my skin was ruined and noticed diff.after I stopped using before 3 years. In the past 3 yrs I've used cosmetics for only 2-3 times. The only time I will be wearing cosmetics now is during my baby shower that for for like 20 mins or so and I am wearng for only one of the functions and decided not to wear the other function(we are having 2 baby showers). So lets do it for our baby which solely depends on us now

Hi,

This is new to me.. Nail polish and fetal growth - I dont see any relation between them.. I wonder whats wrong with nail polish.. it has nothing to do with our LO.. I remove and apply nail polish weekly once sometimes 2 weeks once.. I also do eye brow threading and uppe lips.. I also use lipsticks and chap sticks..

I never do manicure or pedicure(i feel its waste of money).. so i have no idea..

i feel there is nothing wrong in it.. i even do hair st ing... anybody any comments??

Dear moms to be,
I dont have kids yet, and hence not experienced as much as you girls are.. but I do work in a chemical based lab and, I have noticed that it is a practice here among sensible and concerned professors that as soon as a girl gets pregnant, they keep her away from all the chemicals in lab.( They ofcourse dont impose this, as it is a rule in US that nobody should be discriminated at work etc etc, but they do advise the preg girls about being cautious.) In my lab, I also observed that the preg girls are made to shift their office lab from the chem-lab area to absolutely chem-free environment. I used to wonder why.. later I read tht the mingling of vapors itself can be harmful sometimes...
So, now.. nailpolish does have chemicals.. and worse, the nailpolish remover - basically acetone ( not too sure.. but almost the correct word ) is very very harmful ( again, I only read in textbooks .. and articles.. dont know the statistics) So, thats why maybe people say stay away from these..

Here, since you have not applied it yourself or smelled the vapors, I dont think you should worry .. however, check with ob/gyn.. they have so many patients and rich experience, when they assure you .. you'll feel fine..

Rest of mommies-to-be.. take care and read the labels of everything chemical/ pharmacetual you come in contact with..

May Godess Garbarakshambika and Karuvalarcheri Akhilandeswari amman protect all !

Red face Re: Is Nail polish dangerous to the fetus' development? Please advice

I don't think so that threading or waxing or straightening hair can cause any problem during pregnancy. I have seen many Preg women in the parlours in India and also in Germany.

Moreover if it would be a problem, our Gyno should had told us.

So, i think there should not be any problem.

IMHO, Threading, being such a time-tested practice should not a problem ..
Waxing, ofcourse, they will take extracare if they know you are pregnant - firstly because ur skin would be more sensitive then.. and also, they will avoid doubledip etc..
Straightening.. I have no idea dear..

Dear Savitha,

Nice info. So you suggest to avoid nail polishes & removers throughout pregnancy?

Let me know about using hair removal creams too.
