Angry Glucose Test - I failed by 5 points - Urgent Info Required !!!

Hey Ladies,

Today I went for my glucoes test. Unfortunately, my test results came as 140(135 being normal) and I was asked to go for another 4hrs test.
My GYN is great didnt even scare me and told that I barely failed in my test and peple who fail in this will pass on their 2nd test seems.

For this test I fasted for 3hrs only. But for my next test am asked to fast from 12am(prev day) till I complete my next day test.

Fact is am a person who will never eat sweets much. And in this year first time I ate sweets was during my parents visit to USA only. I informed this to GYN and she asked me not at all to worry becoz she is sure I will pass my next test seems. Iam little bit worried and completly stopped sweets now. I wish I will pass my next test.

Please let me know anybody faced such issues in their preg cycle.

Anitha,
One general information, consuming sweets is not the main reason for diabetes.Google on this and you will know which food to reduce.

was that RBS(random blood sugar)?
in addition to a fasting blood sugar,u might require an oral glucose challenge test.nothing to worry now, there is a condition called gestational diabetes(one which occurs in pregnancy).it usually resolves after delivery, but in few cases patients remain diabetic.diabetes during pregnancy may result in a little more chubby baby...nothing else usually.dont worry, because it can further increase ur blood glucose levels.

Thanks ladies for your responses.

Sarr - Am not sure about random blood test or some other. All I did was fasted for 3hrs then drank 50ml glucose water and then they took blood and then checked my glucose levels & i was informed that I barely failed the test and go for 4hrs glucose test in a LApcorp to check if really my glucose is high.

Waiting to go for that test

Anitha,
Do not worry. Am sure you are going to be fine. One of my preggo friends got the same result in the first test.. but she passed on the second. But let me tell you.. Sweets are not the reason for gestational diabetes. It is the Food that is broken down in to Glucose does not get converted to Energy. It can be any food you eat mainly high carb food like Rice, Potatoes... etc.. So ask your doctor for a good diet and eat more protein and do not restrict yourself from any exercise you can get..

Dont worry.. you would be fine and keep us posted on your next test results.

Hi Anitha,
You are doc is correct. You barely failed the test since one of my preggo friend recently was telling me that she her first GTT test was high by 4 points and she was asked to take the next test which she passed. She was telling me that her gyn told her the same thing as urs when she failed by 4 points. It seems she was told that if she really had gestational diabetes then the test would have failed by huge margin. So dont worry and good luck on ur next test.

Anitha, I was tested a little differently with 8 hours fasting and three values on the hour taken after a oral glucose load of 200 mg. My sugar reading were higher on the first hour and the second, but fasting and the last reading were normal. Even then I remember being told 140 is a good value during pregnancy and was told to work toward that.
In Chennai, the docs started monitoring GD closely given the high incidence of it and given how Indians are prone to DM II. I think you are in the normal range already. You may just need to change your grain to whole grains (more than 75 percent of carbs coming from whole grains) and pace out your meals to four to six small meals rather than the three big ones we are used to. Add 10 to 15 min light walking after meals, that helps too in keeping hyperglycaemia in check.

Thumbs up Re: Glucose Test - I failed by 5 points - Urgent Info Required !!!

Anitha,
Failing the one hour does not mean that you have GD. I failed the one hour by two points during the first pregnancy, and passed all four readings for the 3 hours Glucose test. This time around, i failed by the same 2 points again and passed the 3 hour test with flying colors. I would not worry about it much. It is nothing to do with sweets, if you happen to have a lot of starch (rice, potatoes, etc) which tend to contain sugars then we tend to get elevated readings. Do your 8 hours fasting for the three hour test and just dont change or do anything different.
Good Luck!
