Default Is Swine Flu vaccine safe when Pregnant

Hi

I am 6 weeks pregnant. I stay in London. Last week my doctor suggested me to take the swine flu vaccine as soon it arrives (in October). Is it safe to take the swine flu vaccine when you are pregnant? Are there any side affects? Has the vaccine been tested in pregnant woman? Will it affect the foetus?

I think its advisable to take the swine flu vaccine. I think they have separate vaccines for preganant women. I had a normal flu shot specially made for pregnant woman. I guess the swine flu shot will have similar thing too.

Hi Reema,
Currently i am 18 weeks pregnant and my ob-gyn has also advised me to get my self registered in the waiting list for the swine flu vaccine. Also she recommended me to get a flu shot made for pregnant women. Since that shot is currently not available in my clinic I am in their waiting list too.
I think clinical trials for the swine flu shot are still going on and i read somewhere that they are doing those trials on pregnant women too.
But if ur exposure to outside is minimum then u can skip i guess. But ask ur ob-gyn before doing that. But for me its compulsary as I travel daily to my work using subway so I am sort of scared already and hoping that vaccine comes soon.

Hi,

I am staying in USA. Even my midwife recommended to have swine-flu vaccine, bcos pregnant woman are in the priorty list of swine flu. I already had regular flu shot today, thinking whether to have swine flu or not. I am also expecting more replys regarding this.

Padma It is safe to take swine flu shot. It is better to take it because pregnant women are very vulnerable. As you said pregnant women are in the priority list. Why are you having second thoughts?

Hey Ladies,

Even I had my normal flu shot today and my GYN has asked me to take H1N1(Swine flu) injection also. When I enquired in CVS pharmacy they said it may take some time. Or may be they will annouce later they told us.

Priya - Same pinch! Iam also daily travelling in bus & subway. Iam kind of scared too. I try to close my nose using cloth but still when I walk I need to breathe more so I couldnt cover nose all the time . Waiting for Swine flu shot too.

I was just wondering why my Gyno has not suggested me the normal flu shot. Did u take this shot only when recommended by your Gyno or u just take it?

Because now in my office, they are giving the flu shot. They normally give in the start of Autumn-winter.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replys. My midwife mentioned that seasonal flushot and swine flushot are of same composition but giving as different vaccines bcos they cant put in one. I am stay at home mom, going out rarely. Thats why having a second thought for swine flu vaccination.

Hi shwetha,
Iam just worried about is that vaccine affects unborn baby, bcos swine flu vaccine is released first time and there were no records about its effects on pregnant women. Even my midwife recommended pregnant woman can have it but i have second thought as there were no records of its effects in pregnant woman. Its tough time for pregnant woman to decide whether go for vaccine and worried abt its effects or worry abt swine flu. hmm..
