hi ladies... i would like to know whether i'm pregnant, we started to plan for a family only from last week (15th Jan) my period is due on the 17th but i have missed it, are there chance that i am pregnant because today is the 22nd???? I have regular periods and have never skipped or had a delayed one. I did a pregnance test yday which turned out negative, do u think i should wait one more week to know whether i'm pregnant??? It would be gr8 if anyone can help me with my query. Cheers, Riya

Dear Riya, I replied you in the morning - strange that it has "vanished" ! ![]() It is 50-50 chance. Between 15 th & 17 th, there is not much chance for conception, unless it had occurred earlier. In case of a late conception, pregnancy test may not reveal so early. Wait for a week more. If the periods do not still arrive or if you get some symptoms, you can have another test done. All the best. Love, Chithra.

| Hi Vnbaby, Congrats! Nice to have you in IL. I cant help you with a gynec since I dont live in the US, but about your symptoms - all normal and part of pregnancy. The breast tenderness usually lasts throughout the first trimester but sometimes may continue throughout pregnancy. Ditto constipation. Both are due to increased hormones (progesterone mainly). Some aches and pains are also part of pregnancy but its best to have a doctor look at you to be sure. If your period was due on Jan 30th, then you are now about 5 weeks pregnant and should be due in the first week of October. Your doctor will confirm this after an examination/scan. Hope someone else can help you with dealing with the medical system there. Take good care of yourself and do keep us updated here on IL. Lots of people here to answer your questions and help out. | Hi vnbaby! Congrats! I guess we both are sailing in the same boat. I am about 52 days now. I had the same symptoms, breast tenderness and very mild lower abdominal cramps. Even I had the same doubts whether it was normal. When i visited the gynec (around 35 days from LMP), i told her abt the mild abdominal cramps. She asked me to take a scan immediately. The scan showed that I had polycystic ovaries (which I was not aware of before). She has started me on a 500 mg of metformin each night and few extra doses of progesterone. I dont have the cramps now. This is not to alarm you, but I thought i would let you know since you asked about it. Maybe yours is just normal. Many people say the cramps are normal. Even I was very anxious and apprehensive, so went to the doctor very early around 35 days from LMP. But I guess, we can wait for 40 to 45 days to go to the doctor. I will tell you why. In the first scan, the radiologist was unable to visualize the gestational sac as it was too small. So they asked to come for another scan after 10 days. In the second scan, the gestational sac was visible, but he could not see the fetal pole. Now again, they have suggested another scan in 2 weeks. So this is causing a lot of anxiety. So i guess its better we wait and go...Anyway, since even i am new to this whole episode of pregnancy, I wonder what other ladies would suggest regarding this.....I am just telling you what happened in my case. I am just trusting my doctor. Lets see how your doctor handles. Be happy and dont get too anxious unnecesarily. Lets see what other ladies suggest. Cheers, Radhee. |

Hi Vnbaby, Welcome to IL’s!. Well the home pregnancy tests are 99.99% accurate. And more so you have missed your period for over a week now, so I think the result might be positive! For now just chill and try to keep your cool. Yes you sure should contact a GYN but out here most Dr’s see you only when u are in the 8th week or so. But as soon as you contact them, you could ask them for a blood test, which could confirm your pregnancy. Also prenatal vitamins are prescribed at this stage.. To find a good Dr, the best thing would be to consult your primary care physician, and they should be better able to guide you. Else you could also look into your Insurance Book, which details on all the doctors and specialists in your plan. By this you could look for a Dr in your area too!. Or you could even google up!. By which u will get to the know the near by hospitals, patient ratings etc. Or if you live in apartments, and if you find any Indians, you could ask them. Or you could ask your husband to consult with any of his colleagues. Also start on Folic Acid immediately. Take 800mcg daily. Its available, in any pharmacy, over the counter or in Wal-Mart too if u are familiar with it. You can use the free pregnancy calculator over many websites, to calculate your EDD. It will be with some error of + or – 5 days. But something to console you at this moment. And its not bad. Also over the internet you will find tips to keep urself healthy. The 3 symptoms that you have mentioned are generally normal during pregnancy, but if its too severe or unbearable, then it is a concern. Else these and many others are quite normal. As you proceed, u will notice many things like, nausea, morning sickness, bloating, etc… You could gather all details over the internet too. Hope my points help you. Relax and don’t worry, god will take care of everything!

Hi Aadhusmom, Radhee and Mom 2 be ![]() Thanks a lot for your early response and gem like advises. Radhee I agree we both are sailing in a same boat. But you are sitting in front part and i am in the back part .Yes Mom 2 be I am trying hard to search a doctor in my vicinity by asking my Indian friends in apartment. Spending 8-12 hrs in front of computer searching on Internet abt patient reviews and ratings but I dont know why even after searching sooo hard I am unable to find a good site on which I can see patients ratings and reviews abt doctors. All the sites which have some information they are all paid sites like healthgrades.com I have asked my insurance customer support also but they dont have enough information abt doctors on panel. They just have information like if doctors are board certified or not, and for how long they are part of particular insurance company. On this basis they tell if doctor is good or not. But this is not my criteria I want to know what patients experiences are with particular doctor. Are you all expecting? Aadhusmom you have chosen a nice name for your unborn baby(I guess) thats really cute. thanks for calculating my EDD. I hope someone will tell me about a good doctor in LA I am eagerly waiting for other replies. Thanks Friends Last edited by Vnbaby; 6th February 2008 at 07:34 PM.

Congrats Vnbaby... the other IL moms have given you sound advice. With regard to determining if the implantation of the fetus is good, most docs prefer to perform a vaginal ultrasound by 8 - 9 weeks of gestation. At that time they can look for the heart beat too which is kindda cool for you to watch too. Your symptoms are very common though you definitely want to schedule an appointment with a ob/gyn as soon as they can accomodate you. About finding docs, you can randomly pick a few ob/gyns from your insurance provider and google each name to look for any malpractice suits etc. Also you can call the individual doc's office and tell them that you are trying to choose a doc for yourself and so would like to know when the doc graduated, which school they graduated from, how long they have been in practice, if they have any experience with Indian mothers or Asian patients, or anything else you can think of. All these are information any doc office should be eager to provide if they have nothing to hide as you are not specifically asking about a single patient but trying to find if you like the demographics of the doc itself. I would personally be a bit more confident of a doc who has been in practice for more than 7-8 yrs with a good track record and someone who is understanding and patient (this you can know in your first visit or by recommendation). If you are on an insurance plan provided by your DH's company then you can ask him to find out where his collegues or their wives go to... generally they'd be more than glad to tell if they had a really good or bad experience. No harm done in asking around. Good luck with your hunt. -L.
