| Hi ladies, I am 29 weeks pregnant and I am having Gestation Diabetes. Got to know about it only today. Really concerned!!! I am yet to meet the nutritionist and should also start using a glucometer to test my sugar levels after every meal. I know with proper diet (reducing carbohydrates) and exercise it can be in control but still worried. It would really be glad to know much more from any one of you in terms of diet/exercise. Regards, Leo

| Hi Leo, GD is becoming quite common now in pregnant women. Nothing to worry about. Lots of women with GD have given birth to healthy normal babies. I have a detailed plan that i will PM you and you can also ask me any questions that you have. Please go through the Pregnancy forums since i recall seeing a few other moms posting about the same topic. Vandhana |

| Dear Leo Congrats on the pregnancy!!!! Do not worry much. I was diagnosed with GD when I was 29 weeks pregnant. I had a normal healthy baby. I was provided a diet plan for 1800 cal/day. The sample prescribed menu for a day is at the end of the post. I kept the carbohydrate choice as the key and varied the menu based on labels. I am a strict vegeterian and replaced meat with cheese or other veg options. I had to monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day. The fasting was bad towards the end and I was prescribed a tablet called Glyburide instead of insulin. This diet prevents you gaining more weight, which is very helpful when you want to loose the weight after the delivery Note : 1 carb = 15g of carbohydrate. Breakfast Carb Choice Sample Menu 1 milk 1 1 cup milk or 1 cup plain yogurt 1 bread/starch 1 1 slice bread or 1/2 unsweetened cereal 1 fat 0 1 tsp margarine/ghee 1 meat 0 Snack 1 fruit 1 1 apple( size of baseball ) 1 bread/starch 1 Lunch 1 milk 1 1 fruit 1 1/2 banana 2 bread/starch 2 2 slicesbread 1-2 vegetable 0 1 cup raw carrots/1 side salad/lettuce and tomato on sandwich 1 fat 0 1 tbsp salad dressing 2 meat 0 1/2 cup dhal Snack 1 fruit 1 1 orange( size of baseball ) 1 bread/starch 1 Dinner 1 milk 1 3 bread/starch 3 2 chapati 1-2 vegetable 0 1 fat 0 3 meat 0 Bedtime snack 1 milk 1 1 bread/starch 1 1 meat 0 -Gayathri |
