Dear Dhivi, Swelling on legs is common during pregnancy. I too had swelling by the 5th month. Its nothing to worry about. If need be, you can check with your doctor. its water and salt retention. Kindly cut down on salt intake and that should bring the swelling down a bit. Take care, JJ

Hi, First of all congrats on your pregnancy. Swelling in legs is because of water retention. So try to not to sit for long durations, reduce the amount of salt in your diet and when you sleep put a pillow under your feet. Do also consult your doc about this. All the best, Yamuna

| Dear Dhivi, Congratulations on your pregnancy!! Now oedema, or swelling of your legs as you say ,is very common in pregnanacy! To combat oedema, you can keep your legs in a slightly raised position while sleeping. I guess now your visits to your gynaec must have also increased, so though there is absolutely nothing to worry about Oedema ,Its always better to be very thorough with your prenetal tests. Do consult your gynaec ,since they have your complete records. I can completely understand the anxiety of your mother. Tell her theres nothing to worry!:)) Wish you all the very best for a safe delivery!! Love, Devika

Hello Dhivi Congrates.. It happens in pregnancy...just eat small amount of food every 2 hrs...reduce salt and sugar from ur diet...eat more fibre food...coz eating too much sweet and salty our body tissue become soft...legs become swollen and it hurts during walking..but we need flexibility in tissue...so eat vege, fruits a lot but no fruit juices...put salt in cold water and dip ur legs..it'll help..and walk 1 mile everyday...its my own experience...and doctor explained me all this tissue thing how it affects during pregnancy ...Even our vagina tissue becomes soft so we get pain there...so again diet control helps... Regards, Shivangi

Dear all, Thanks a lot each one of you for your wonderful suggestions. I am following your suggestions and I have started noticing a very noticable change in the swellings. This is what I am doing. 1. I am taking lots of water. Atleast 2 lts a day. Boiled water with Barley, Drumstick leaves, Curry leaves(the later two are optional). 2. Have regular walks. Either in morning or evening. 3. Started taking food at short intervals rather than having heavy at long intervals.... with less salt, spices. Take care.
