I am in the same boat as you ... week 18 just started and I am still waiting for that burst of energy that is supposed to show up in the 2nd trimester. I sleep 9 hours at night but wake up 3 times in between for bathroom breaks, and then take a 2 hour nap in the afternoon! Ditto on the headaches too. The only thing that helps with the headaches is drinking lots of water but that increases the bathroom trips a lot! I think what you are experiencing is totally normal ... each woman is different so what worked for your friends may not be true for you. So just relax and take it a day at the time.

Hi Padma, Each and every pregnancy (even for the same woman) is different. For my first one I was so active after my 1st trimester. But now in this second pregnancy I'm feeling fresh only after completing the 2nd trimester. I was so sickly and all the time tired in the 2nd trimester. As long as you don't have pain in your back, abdomen or pelvic areas i don't think there is any reason to worry about. Take rest whenever you feel like, drink lots of fluids (that's very important) and don't exert yourself too much. Latha

Hi Padma, Headaches can persist and may be due to hormonal shifts but most often it tapers off. But if its getting too much to tolerate you might ask you ob and most probably tylenol will take care of it. DO NOT take any ibuprofen group of drugs - NO NSAIDs as they can cause bleeding. Otherwise good hydration and some form of active exercise helps to take care of headaches. With regard to the burst of energy - well I didn't get any special dose during 2nd trimester, if there was any it was more tiredness because of the growing baby. Most people who were terribly sick during the first trimester who don't have morning sickness in their 2nd feel its like a burst of energy because in their previous months they were really sick and bed ridden. As far as my case I was waiting for the supposed "burst of energy" and waiting and waiting and it is already my 3rd trimester now - so don't worry and keep doing your stuff as much as you can. If you feel tired then may be your body is telling you to rest, so just rest & relax.-L.

Hi Padma.. I am also 18 weeks 6 days pregnant. II think because you can't sleep well, thats why you are feeling tired more, try to relax and close your eyes whenever is possible. I think headaches are due to change in harmones also, but if its getting worst check with your doctor. Since I got pregnant I am kind of facing insomania, for some reason I can't sleep at night and then I take a nap for couple of hours in the afternoon. I don't feel tired or headache. From past couple of weeks my mouth taste has gone horrible. I keep sucking hard candies, but sometime those doesn't help either. I am very afraid of getting cavities in my mouth due to candies but I can't help. I also drink lots of water it makes it little better. Nausea and vomiting has surely subsided from the past couple of weeks, but sometime once in a week it hits very hard and its so annoying. I love being active and fresh. And its true every pregnancy is unique on its own way. Hope you feel better and as other friends has adviced water helps alot. Take care.

hello perhaps you people who have a run down feeling are constipated? try getting up early even if you were not able to sleep in the night just go for a small walk in the open forget coffee/tea and other carbonated drinks/colas clear bowels everyday if necessary with an enema take more salads in meals take more greens cooked fresh more of the kootu variety and less of fry/ curry take more fruits for persistent headaches try this soak a few raisins say ten to fifteen in number overnight eat one or two whenever you wish and finish it by evening drink the water too hope this helps sathya Last edited by sathya; 2nd April 2008 at 06:30 AM.

hi, during my 2nd trimester I also felt very very tired, there was nothing much to be done about it. Low iron levels also add to tiredness. Its completely normal, taking iron supplements could help. Take care and all the best
