Default Good diet and nausea

Hi all,

I'm 9 weeks pregnant. In general I take not well balanced, but good food and drink lot of water. But since the time I became pregnant (even before I know that I'm pregnant) I'm not eating good food, like i'm not eating veggies (not even one veggie some days), i'm not eating breakfast, not drinking milk and I dont even feel like drinking water. I used to take all these things (except breakfast) before but not now when I need them the most. Basically I'm eating very less food and less fluids and that too not a balanced one. All this is making me worried about the baby. Any of you came across this situation. If so what did you do.

One more problem:
I don't throw up but I have nausea sometimes through out the day, sometimes in the afternoon or from evening. And this is making me very uncomfortable, i'm not doing anything during this time. Just sitting or lying down. Can you tell me how are dealing with this.

thanks,
pebblebeach

Hi Pebblebeach...

First of all Congratulations for your pregnancy. I am also 13 week pregnant almost near completing my First trimester. Trust me, I am still in the same position alot. I am not a right example myself to give you good advice. But all I can tell you from my past days experience, I myself wasn't drinking much water, because of that landed in the hospital due to dehydration. Which can sometime have sever consequences. Luckily, my baby is doing ok (touchwood). Since then, I force myself no matter what how I feel either vomit or nauseous. I eat small amount of food 5 times but no spices or oily food. Try different things like fruits, salad, sandwiches, icecreams, mixed nuts so that you and baby get something. Even my doctor adviced me don't stress about too much for nutritions in the first trimester if you can't have it, eat what makes you feel better. But don't stop eating. If you don't like the taste of water try different juices, popsiciles, buttermilk, shakes. First trimester is like experimenting with food everyday. I think I am almost out of all experiments, but I am eating whatever is possible.

Hopefully, after first trimester it will start slow down and will start eating again. Just hang in there. If you have sever nausea or vomitting alot, call your doctor. S/he will give you medicine. My Prenatal vitamin comes with Vitamin B6, which is helpful to keep the nausea down. I read information from other sites on pregnant women and IL's pregnant women posts, it gives me little hope I will be fine one day too.

Good luck and take care.

Hi!!!
Even I m sailing on the same boat - in my first trimester...I guess this will go off eventually but as everybody says eating is important. Try having milk if u can cause thats important and also fruits. Basically i think this is what is keeping me on. Water is important. For me cold water works..Room temp water...yuck...But anyways I m keeping my hopes alive...Good luck to u guys too. Hopes this phase ends soon.
Cheers!!

Hi ladies

Honestly, I think too much emphasis is put on diet during the first trimester. Don't fret too much, if you don't want to eat regular food, eat junk food. I'm in my 16th week of pregnancy and I am just starting to feel better. My ob always said for my first pregnancy and now my second, as long as you eat something and drink a little bit don't worry and try to take your prenatal. If you can't again stop worrying. The baby will be fine its you that will need energy. Honestly, I don't like to eat Indian food when I'm pregnant so I eat pizza, fish burgers and whatever chips I find appetizing. I don't drink milk or water but I eat lots of yogurt and drink juices.
EAT what you feel like and forget about the nutritional value of the food. you still have 6 months to go. Here's my advice and one more thing rest and sleep a lot it really helps. Limit all of your house work to bare necessities and enjoy your pregnancy! take care and congrats to all mom's........

HI ,

Congrajulations.......................

Don't get stressed out much as this will eventually fad after 3 trisemister.I feed yourself whatever you want but just don't try to skip as you will feel more week and helpless .Take your vitamins without fails.

Some tips :
1.You can always try lemon pickle or Lemonade whenever you feel nausea as this will simmer down the feeling.Drink it slowly then you will feel better.

2.You can eat one lavang or elaich just to flvour your mouth .

All these things used to make me feel better.

Hope this will help you

Hi Pebble!!

Congratulations for your first pregnancy!! So now after reading so many replies you can easily tell that you are not alone .

I am going to complete my 8 weeks tomorrow according to the ultrasound scan. And believe me I am feeling exactly the same way like you have mentioned in your post like I am also unable to eat anything these days because of nausea which is not limited to certain period of the day like afternoon or morning or night it lasts for whole day so I am eating bare minimum . I dont throw up but even then my diet has reduced drastically after getting pregnant. Not only that I just dont feel like doing any activity. These days I just want to sit in front of my laptop or want to lie down and sleep because while sleeping I dont feel all these(nausea, weakness, dizziness due to weakness) sick feelings. The biggest exercise for me is cooking dinner because smell of oil makes me sick like anything .

I used to worry alot about my baby because I am not eating or drinking adequate amount. Then I talk to my family Gyn in India she told me that baby is getting everything it needs from your body and its only you who is going to feel weakness , fatigue and more nausea so eat anything you like. Take in small quantities because of higher amount of hormone production your body's digestive system becomes slow. But try to eat 5-6 times in a day. But do eat. And if you can take milk then take it with boost, horlicks, bourn vita or anything that you like. It will not only enhance the taste as well its nutritious value also . Milk is itself a complete food. I used to like fruits a lot but I am taking them just because they are easy to eat and there is no oil in them(oil makes me terribly sick) and they taste better. I like sweet and sour fruits like oranges, pear etc. because they enhance flavour of my mouth which is almost bitter these days .

So the moral of the story is eat. Eat whatever you can eat be it junkfood or just unhealthy food........ just eat anything. And keep this thing in my mind that all these monsterous feelings will fade away one day as everybody and other ILs have suggested us .

Take care of yourself and life within you.
V n Baby

Hi Pebblebeach,
I am on my 7th week of pregnancy.
I am also feeling just like you feeling how baby get nutition food, if i am not taking properly. As all other IL'tes said, it is only we have to eat whatever we feel to eat atleast in 1st trimester.
U know what, i started throwing up, i feel like very very weak and do not want to eat anything...but after few minutes, i will just feel let me eat anything...how many times i throw up keep sending food inside tht's all.....
i am really having hard time eating food but still keep on working that.
Taking soaked almonds, (and after that just to roast a little bit if u want or it is optional,) i guess we might feel little bit good. take milk is good option. i am trying to take 2/3 times per day. atleast that will help little bit.
After reading all threads, we will come across many were on the same boat as we are, so Don't worry and be positive. Do not take too much mental stress.

- Chitti.
