Default Taking Thyroid pills 6+ weeks pregnant

Dear Friend

Can any one advise me. I had 2 miscarriages and pregnant with 3rd one and in my 7th week. I got to take an U/S next week end. When i went to india for after my 2nd miscarriage the drs found i had thyroid and i am taking pills. I checked my thyroid and it is within normal. My huddy did an extensive search in web and found that thyroid got to be check often and medication got to be changed, He also found that once baby is born its thyroid levels got to be checked earlier.
Does anyone has experience on it please advise me as to what i got to do to be more cautious.

Hi,

Firstof all Congratulations for getting pregnant.Nothing to worry much.Be relaxed.I was in the same boat ,S, i got pregnant just after 1 month of diagonising me with hypothyroidism. The doctor advised me to continue with the same dose throughout the pregnancy.I did the same and i think in abt 3 months after my delivery they got my thyroid levels checked and as per my condition they lowered the dose. It was 41/2 yrs back and i m still taking the same dose ofcourse with my TSH levels checked in abt every 6 months.
No need to rush abt your child's thyroid levels immediately after the delivery.U can consult your pediatrician abt that and they will sure guide u through. So stay cool and enjoy your pregnancy while waiting for the unborn bundle of joy.take care

rgds,

Selvi

Dear Selvi

Thanks for your words. But please clarify how often was the levels checked during your pregnancy. And did the dr advise you to take any other test other than thyroid for any other reason. Please advise. Were you asked to check on baby's development other than u/s.

Dear Sumathi,

I was in india at that time and what the dr.told me was that i shud continue with the same dose (that i was taking while i got pregnant ) throughout my pregnancy. And i m very sure that they didnot chk levels during my pregnancy. They did it only after i stopped breastfeeding my son.

One inexperienced dr. checked my son's thyroid levels in 10 days after he was born but later when i changed my pediatrician,he told me that it was totally an unneccessary test to be done for a newborn baby. And he advised me not to be worried abt it as there is a very low chance for the thyroxine to have passed to the baby thru mother's milk.(thats why they asked me continue with the same dose,i guess).

So pls.consider this as just a case and consult with your Gynaec.and clarify all your doubts and be relieved.Hope this helps u.

take care and eat well .

rgds,

Selvi

Dear Selvi

Thanks for clarifying. Anyway i took my thyroid test this month as i read in website that in 1st trimester it works more cos baby need thyroxine. My Gynac has asked me to repeat after 3 month in feb. I got my U/S this weekend.
I am trying to be safe unlike in india in the country where i live now they arent checking thyroid .

Thanks will consult u in case of any further queires.

Hello Sumaticg,
I also have tyroid problems and i am 16 weeks pregnant. First of all be sure you have good doctor to track your preganacy. Hormone levels should be checked once for every trimester. No need of bed rest unless doctor adviesd you this. Have happy pregnancy time and wish you for a cute baby at the end.
