| Hi Gayathri, Your information is really useful and helpful. I am expecting my baby in mid of August 2008. And we are planning to move to different apartment/location on September 1st. How do i apply Birth certificate/SSN ? I believe if the address is changed, the SSN document/ Birth certificate documents will not be deliered to new address by Address-Forward. What do we do now ? Please suggest your comments. And I am planning to visit india in December, so I have to apply for SSN/Birth Certificate immedidately after the baby is born Thanks Sree |

| Hi Can any one of you explain what is the difference between PIO and OCI ? Which has more benefits ? |

| we discussed the difference between OCI and PIO in this thread - Let's share our feelings Some more websites to help Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) CGI-HOUSTON For specific requirements please refer to the consulate that you'll need to send the application to (depends on the state you live in). With regard to taking pictures (in US), please call you local pharmacy and ask them if they take passport photos for infants - most of them do (around $8 for 2 pictures - remember to get total of 6; 2 for passport and 4 for PIO card). They make the baby lie down on a white poster board and take pics - it is okay if the baby's face is slightly turned to the side too. Also your local post office that submits your application for the passport can take pictures (but is more expensive). Sree with regard to change of address - you get a temporary birth certificate from the hospital and when they give you the form to fill out for application of ssn you can give your new address (you can ask your hospital to confirm that). So when the ssn comes it will directly go to your new address - but take care to make sure that you'll be in the new address by the time you get that mail. Otherwise you can apply for ssn after you move. For the formal birth certificate, you have to go to the driver's licence office (ask the hospital in which you deliver for the number of days you need to wait before you go to the office). It took our hospital 10 days before we could go to the local office - once again you can either wait a couple of hours and get in person or fill a form and mail it to get the certificates in the mail. So in this way you can ask them to mail it to your new address too. Hope I didn't confuse you. P.S. It took us 10 working days to get our son's passport and 11 working days for the PIO card. -L.
