snack vinayagar

Hi all .
I am having a serious doubt .
While making snacks we Hindus prepare vinayagar in that dough ,and decorate vinayagar with turmeric and kum kum and put it pooja room. After doing these things what to do with that vinayagar, i don"t know.
Plz clear my doubt.

An old lady in my neighbourhood used to drown it in well or in river (any water which is not stagnant).
