Hi fragrance,

Personally, If rust is formed in Iron kadai, then I would kindly suggest you to dispose it.

It is not healthy and I am not aware of any methods to remove rust from them.

It is always best to wipe the iron & non stick items as soon as we wash them. This will preven the formation of rust in future.

Probably other IL'ites can share more info on this.

Cheers
Krithika

Hi fragrance,

Iron kadais are susceptible to rusting, where there is lot of moisture.First mix a teaspoon each of table salt and tamarind paste and apply inside the kadai, after leaving for 1/2 hr, wash with soap and water, rinse thouroughly with a towel.Apply a little bit of any oil on the inside surface and keep it.If you dry it and apply a coat of oil everytime you use it it will not rust. And new ones are more prone than relatively old ones.Good Luck!

hi,
applying oil is a fool proof method to prevent the kadai from rusting, but always remember to wash the kadai thorougly before use because the oil becomes rancid after some time
cheers

hi,
recently I came across this info, which I thought I would share.

Dip the cut side of a half a potato in dish soap and apply thouroughly all over the insides of iron kadai or tava and then wash and rinse, apply a light coat of oil before storing.

Hi,
It is 'old is gold' concept, and eliminates all the known and unknown effects ofcooking in the non-stick pots.(At least for a paranoid like me??)Moreover it is said to contribute to the valuable mineral intake by constant use, in a safe way.It sure takes only little oil, while you saute vegetables, and very tasty too.!!Why would we bother to use it though it is very difficult (Only in the beginning) to maintain.
